Post Washington DC Campgrounds???

Hi all,

I plan on visiting the DC area in mid november for a week and would appreciate any insight on campgrounds in the area. Ideally, I would perfer one within a short distance from the transit lines ( I will be going to DC and the convention center daily). Electric would be nice, but not required, showers however are. Thanks alot

Rodney

I lived in the DC area for about 5 years and the only campground I'm aware of near transit is Cherry Hill in College Park, MD. I believe they run a shuttle to let you off at the local train station.

We didn't own the Airstream when we lived there so I never stayed at the campground. I'll let someone else do that report.

Have fun!

-J

Greenbelt Park

My wife and I stayed in Greenbelt Park on our last visit to D.C. It is a beautiful park run by the national park service. Here is the website:

Buzzy,

How did you folks get into the city? Is there public transportation nearby?

Try Pohick Regional Park in Northern VA. It's close to the Metro at Springfield.

Page and I have stayed at the Prince William Forest Park (National Park) Trailer Village just North of Quantico. Easy access to the Metro. Good, clean facilities and friendly people.

Cherry Hill is very nice, and perfect for visits to DC.

We stayed there last spring, bought transit cards at the campgroung office, and were then able to come and go at will. The office staff will make sure you get where you need to be. Very friendly.

We used to camp here back in the 90's, all the spots were pull-through and it was very quiet, but security has gotten so strict lately.

Back in '94 a guy even landed a small plane here and they didn't make a big deal out of it. Oh well...

Greenbelt Park

There is a Metro station a mile away from Greenbelt. Each day we purchased one day passes and saw the sites by taking the metro. It was very convenient and we avoided all the traffic and parking headaches.
