We just got back last Thursday from DC & we stayed at Cherryhill RV park in College Park, MD. The metro bus comes to the park & you can take that to the train into the city. We did this one day & going in is fine but you need to time your return or you may be waiting on the train & then the connecting bus. The a Gray line Tour buses also come to the park & we took that into DC. We liked that the best. Gray line has 2 options - one drives you on the same bus with timed stops. This allows you to see the memorials but doesn't allow time for the various Smithsonian museums. The 2nd tour is the Big Red Bus & it is a hop on / hop off option. It stops at both the memorials & museums every 20 minutes so you can take all the time you want. Both pick up at the park so it was great. The park has a restaurant with to go options so no cooking after a tour day which is nice. The staff knows all the train or tour bus info so you don't have to figure anything out. The park also has a dog walker. I usually stay in state or federal parks but CherryHill meet our needs for touring DC.

Thanks
Jane

Looking at the Website for Greenbelt National Park, it looks like they have a tick warning in affect. Is this typical for all campgrounds in the Washington, D.C. area, or is this only a problem in Greenbelt?

Also, are ticks less of a problem when cooler weather arrives?

That warning has been up for at least a year. When we went we weren't in the park long enough to know if it was a problem. Really just slept there. Didn't seem to be bothering anyone else from what I could tell.

Generators are allowed from 6am till 10 pm
Sites 138 - 144 or something like that get plenty of sun
There is one long site in B loop too that gets plenty of sun
Ticks are a problem - just use lots of repellant and check often

Thanks for all the replies about generator use. Hope to take my grandson to D.C. to see the monuments before he heads back to school.
