Want to visit Top of Georgia AS Park

We are in Newport, TN wanting to go to Helen, GA. The route would take us thru the Smokies, Nantahala Natl Forest.. I40 then onto US 23/74W. This is about 150 miles thru the mtns.

Is this doable with a 28 AS?

Yes. Not a problem although pretty curvy in places as you get close to Helen. I've done it with my 30'. Beautiful drive.

i did it with my 25. No problem other than some short but relatively steep <6%?? grades. I pulled them in my F150 5.4L 3.73 with no problems other than slow going in a couple of places.

No problem, dozens of 18 wheelers make the run every day. They all go right past TOG. It is worth the trip. It is a nicely laid out park in a very beautiful area. Helen is a neat little touristy German town. I was there this past Octoberfest on the way to Fallaluminum and had a great time.

Smile Helen

Stay at the Top Of Georgia Airstream Park while you are there, full hook up and they have wi-fi and cable tv. Several places and things to do in the area, you and Jack will love it.-----Bill&Peggy.

Top of Georgia

If you are going up to Top Of Georgia AS Park from Helen it is a nice drive. You just need to know that the driveway is on the left and you will need to cross the opposite lane to enter. Go slow because if you miss the driveway it will be some time before you can turn around, and if you get turned around and head downhill the turn into the drive can be a problem.
Wish I could be there one more time.

We are celebrating Jan 2, 2015 at the Top of Georgia AS Park backed up to the creek. Even though it is winter it is a lovely experience to be among only AS trailers. Thanks for all the directions and it is a beautiful drive.

Been here since Monday and will be here till likely Tues or Wed. 1291.5 miles from our driveway in Texas. Richard, the camp host now will welcome you warmly. Attached is a video with the viewsound from our door at night.

Love the sound of the stream. It blocks the noise from the trucks going past.

As mentioned in one of the posts above the entrance to Top of Georgia can be quite a challenge. Be sure to look at an aerial map to see exactly how much of a challenge.

Going north (as mentioned above) you have to cross oncoming traffic on a hill/curve so it's a bit of a blind spot.

From the north (the direction you've proposed) you'll almost certainly have to move into the oncoming traffic lane and make nearly a right-hand U-turn to get into the driveway.

You might want to call the park and see what they recommend.

On Edit: I just looked at Google map earth view and it's definitely a right-hand U-turn coming from the north. The park has made a wide, paved entrance/apron transitioning from the road to the their driveway but it's a challenge and there is no room for error. Drive slow and look carefully for the entrance.

Well... I see you've already made it to ToG - guess you figured it out.

You're in our neck of the woods!

If your return home involves US64 headed back towards Cleveland, we could meet you at the Hardee's in Ducktown and touch base, if you have the time and are so inclined.

Cleveland, TN. It's where US64 hits I-75 north of Chattanooga.

We will be here until Monday and headed to Buck's Pocket in NW Alabama....making our way to Dauphin Island. Love the friendliness of our AS buddies. Thank you so much for the invite but headed S.

Been in KY for 4 months at AMZN and Dauphin Island visit is kinda a little reward before going to NorthShore NOLA for a month.

badkat,

When you have time, and if you're willing, please post some comments about Amazon on THIS THREAD.

Thanks

This was my second season..enjoy meeting other full-timers. There are many of us at AMZN locations. Campbellsville, KY usually has about 500 workkampers. HR are honest up front and tell you what to expect. We have fun, work hard and they say we make History..hehe.

I could write a very long message..much to share if others are interested.

Details are coming out mid-January on all workkamper locations for AMZN 2015. They are adding more locations because they have said the work ethic of the campers is valuable to getting them thru Xmas Peak.

Guess I did not pay attention in class..did not us that link!

I'm certainly interested in hearing more about your experience and I think some others are interested too.

I'll reword my link to make it more obvious. Please post additional comments about Amazon RV work force on The Other Thread I didn't want to hijack the Top of Georgia thread with an Amazon discussion.

Thanks
