Hi Dansclan and welcome to the forum. Congratulations on your new AS. There is a list of Wal-Marts that don't allow parking, most of them do.

We stayed at the one in Staunton, VA last week, there were several other campers and RVs along with several tractor trailers. We always buy something from them even if it's just breakfast. We've stayed at some Cracker Barrel restaurants too. We have dinner, ask permission, come back for breakfast.

WalMart

I've parked overnight at lots of WalMarts in NV over the years without problem.

Has a state law banning overnight parking at NV WalMart s been passed in the last three years?

I've not tried a Walmart but we stay often in Flying J truck stops when on long trips and never had any problem to this point. No need to even ask, 99% of them even have spots for RV's

Some people also use Cracker Barrel restaurants and I gather that they are welcoming. We have not tried them. We almost did one night, but the particular location didn't seem to have enough space for us to park the truck and trailer without causing problems for other people so we moved on down the road to the next Flying J!

FJ are now owned by Pilot and they too are ok with RV's - at least the couple we have used. Generally though they don't seem as well set up for it as the FJ's who even have dump stations and dedicated fuel islands for RV's in most cases.

Brian.

This is from the Walmart Corporate website:

Can I park my RV at a Walmart store?
While we do not offer electrical service or accommodations typically necessary for RV customers, Walmart values RV travelers and considers them among our best customers. Consequently, we do permit RV parking on our store parking lots as we are able. Permission to park is extended by individual store managers, based on availability of parking space and local laws. Please contact management in each store to ensure accommodations before parking your RV.

Hope this helps.

I would rather pay for an overnight at camp ground if no FJ/Pilot truck stops available than stay at Walmart, I don't trust the people who come around after dark!

Might want to read this article before overnighting at Walmart. I posted it on the other Walmart parking thread. That said, we have stayed at a few Walmart's but the wife is always nervous during the night. I don't really mind too much, but that is because I always have my loaded 1911 near by. There does seem that there are a good number of undesirables who "shop" at W stores.

Stayed at many Walmarts up and down the east coast. Never been turned down. In by eight, out by seven.

While I've seen RVs parked at Walmart, I haven't joined 'em yet. That will be a decision made in realtime based on location, lighting, and if someone else is already there. I have opted for rest areas when using the interstate, using the same criteria, and frankly consider them pretty safe.

Post #819 on the main thread contains this link also. In my personal opinion, it makes sense for further replies to occur in that thread, for continuity's sake down the road.

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f42/...ing-13082.html

And the ensuing comments contain lots of good replies and ideas.

Why have two parallel threads?

Peter

Walmart parking

There is a very good app "allstays" that can be downloaded and purchased for a small fee. I have it on my IPad. It lists all Walmarts and shows which allow parking, and which don't. The app also provides a wealth of info which will greatly enhance your travel experience. Seems it cost 5.00 if I remember.

Allstays is $10. I put off buying it for a while because all the information is available elsewhere. Finally after reading tons of positive reviews I decided to give it a try. Glad I did. Very convenient have all that information available in one place.
