Maybe going into a Walmart, shopping, and then asking the management with a full shopping cart next you will get a more favorable response.

I don't have to worry about staying overnight at a Walmart because DW doesn't feel comfortable about staying overnight in a parking lot.

We have stayed in Walmart parking lots. Went in to ask. No one cared.

Kelvin, if you're doing some long distance travel and need a convenient stop for the night, there is little difference between a Walmart parking lot and an RV park, except it's probably more convenient and a better value.

We have used Walmart many times during our travels. We always go inside and ask for permission. Even if there are other campers in the parking lot we still go inside and ask.

You can install the Walmart app on your smart phone for free, which will show you where the nearby stores are located. And, of course, you can use it to shop as well.

We always call ahead and ask..then ask where to park. Just don't want to drive there to get a no. Only time it has been a problem is a city ordinance against it or they are in a place with many other stores.

Wal-Mart parking

I have done this before and never had any problems. I always get in a far corner of the parking lot where I am assured that I will not be using valuable real estate.

We have overnighted in Walmart parking lots on many occasions.

We use the RV PARKY app. It shows all Walmarts and whether they allow ONP. This app also has their phone numbers. We usually call the store before pulling off the road.

Walmart's Directory of stores that prohibit overnight parking

Ran across the following url that lists Walmart stores, by state that do NOT allow overnight parking. This is the most thorough and accurate information I've found. I purchased the AllStays app and it is horribly out of date and not user friendly.

No Overnight Parking at Walmart | Walmart Atlas

Walmart Parking

Thank goodness the Plymouth, Wisconsin Walmart is not on the list. I have parked there about a dozen times and they have a nice level spot especially for me...LOL ....if I arrive early, that is.

And, even if the store is on the list, one might get an exception, especially if one parks at the farthest area from the store and purchases something from the store. I usually get some groceries and ask management at the same time.

Also, the definition of "overnight parking" can be fudged. Is this two hours, six hours, eight hours or more?

I am fairly certain if one were to disconnect the trailer from the TV this could be problematic as it might suggest more than just an "overnight".

Some jurisdictions prohibit overnight parking in other than an RV park. Anaheim, CA comes to mind, as does Victorville, CA. Two places that I'm familiar with, and there may be lots more.

We tend to park overnight in KOAs or on other appropriate private property. Plan to try a few Walmart or Cracker Barrel parking lots next trip, asking first.

Homestead, FL banned the practice after it was abused. Folks were homesteading to do day trips in the Keys or to Everglades NP.

It has been brought up to the city council in Cody, WY but the source of friction there is the campground owners in the area. No action was taken, yet.

It sure is a nice option in a pinch.

Parked in a Lowe's parking lot Thursday night. It was about a mile from a Wal Mart we have stopped at a few times. It was cleaner and quieter than the Wal Mart, and didn't have the late night "freak" traffic.

No hassle, and we left the lot the same way we found it.

People will pay $500,000 more for motor home or up to $150,000 for AS & tv. then look for freebies to park. I have stayed for several hours in 3 rest stops in over 60 yrs. of travel for much needed rest. If on trip we look for mun. parks all way to fed. places, plan trip so I don't have to free load or put up with nonsense of others, several times places were a little off beaten path but found much local history and scenic views, so walmart is out for me or other bus. to free load off of.

Wal Mart overnight parking

If I was going to pay 500,000 for a motor home I wouldn't.

I would fly and indulge in room service.

But, the reason I park my $20,000 trailer in parking lots has more to do with convenience.

It did not take me long to figure out that as a rule, RV camp staff doesn't much cotton to arrivals after dark and I really never park before dark when I am in route.

Walmart Parking or other

I am often on the road heading out for 1,000 miles or more to my destination. My desire is to get there, yet have adequate rest on the way. So, I will do the Interstate Rest Areas, major truck stops, and if a Walmart is convenient, as a last resort. The rapid "in & out" when one does not disconnect the trailer from the TV allows a more efficient journey to my final destination.

With that in mind, however, if my trip plan is to cover some interesting attractions on the way, I may us an RV campground for two nights so as to do my usual thing (photograph stuff) and be able to go whee a TV and trailer cannot.

And, finally, in some of the Wally Worlds i have stayed the afore mentioned night time activities of various "visitors" in the middle of the night can be disturbing.

And, while my moho was not quite $500,000 I did follow the same patterns when touring with it. The big disadvantage of the moho is the weight and length which prohibits so many roads from being utilized.

They have signs posted no over night parking in Edmond, OK.
