Ticki2 Ever think that the store manager might be residing there awning out etc? I can not think of one good thing about wm. Their ammunition is no deal, but then again who wants to put chinese ammo in their weapon? Semper Fi

I don't think a store manager would set that standard for others to follow . As far as the Chinese ammo , check the labels on the cloths you're wearing , from the top brands down to the bottom. This is not a WM problem , this is an America problem , there are too many things we don't make anymore.

Agreed! and we will be paying for it in the future again and again. My biggest beef with wm is the way they don't treat their employees very well. Being the largest single employer in the country outside of the US Government, and their lack of providing affordable, quality health insurance. And shifting those costs to the US taxpayer is unacceptable, in my opinion. What they have done is create a low wealth wage base. Second only to the illegal immigrants. (rant off)

No WM manager I know of wants to spend time anywhere near their store on their days off.

I checked my labels this morning, USA, Cambodia, Bangladesh, India, El Salvador, Jamica, Malayasia, Dominican Republic, nope nothing from china. Must have something to do with buying my own threads and not stoping at wm. Sadly I do own some electronic items with chinese parts in them. Whenever I can I buy American. Wahoonc is right on about wm to bad more folks can not see this. and you don't want to get me started about illegal immigrants here in california.

Hi wahoonc--I have talked to numerous WalMart employees around the country and asked them if they like working at WalMart. All said yes. One young man at at the lub rack said he could work elsewhere for a little more money, but liked the people he worked with. Another older lead man in the tire shop at another store, in another state said he stayed at WalMart because the benefits for his family were better than at other auto repair places he had worked, which had none. An 80+ year old widow works, part time, in the shoe dept. of another WalMart, and says going to her job each day is what keeps her going. She loves working with the customers, particularly the children. A retiree from an executive job works in the sporting goods area, and enjoys it because he gets to talk with people about his love, hunting and fishing. There are a lot of part timers at WalMart, but a lot of people want to work part time (retirees, students, moms, and others). Every time WalMart opens a new store they have over ten times as many people applying for jobs, as they have openings. Every time I go into a WalMart there are plenty of people in the store, purchasing things they need, or want. I have no connection with WalMart other than I shop there. They offer good value on most products, for most people.--Frank S

I am not going to go indepth here, it isn't the place. But I had cousin that worked for WM the wages they paid her as a Head Cashier were not enough to support herself and 3 school aged children. She has since gotten a much better job at Caterpillar, that pays living wages and includes things like health insurance that doesn't cost 40% of her take home pay.

We went out to Lancaster, PA to pick up a 1978 31' Airstream.
Spent one night in school yard atop Mt. Storm in a snow squall.

But the best night was the Sunday night we spent at the WM Supercenter in Tell City, IN. I checked with the manager, ok to park, down in the SW corner of the lot.

Turned on the propane heater and the stove burners and settled in.

About 11 pm, the screaming and yelling started, cars spinning rubber, Either wife was messing around with another or husband was messing around with another. Two car loads of idiots fighting about 20 feet from our trailer.

The windows were iced over so we couldn't see out and I was too scared to open the door.

Where's the cell phone, my wife asked. Plugged in the cigarette lighter in the truck. Finally, after forever, 3 cop cars came and more screaming and yelling. People went to jail. Someone parked a pickup in front of our truck, so the next morning I had to back up to get out.

I could never figure out why, in that huge empty parking lot, they had their big fight right next to us.

That's a good story...! Maybe one of those Murphy's Law deals where in an empty lot someone parks right in front of you too...makes me think it was a set up!
My story on my one and only experience at Walmart (superone as well!) in Palm Springs, CA... parked in the far end, noise all night long until 1am...cars squeeling by, kids partying...you name it...who knew so much can go on in a parking lot??? Then a blissful 5 hours rest until 6 when the street cleaner made about 15 turns right around the campers I'm sure they were 'waking' us up to get us out or to make it uncomfortable for us to be there any longer! I think it's to discourage stopovers... but if you're just driving thru ...it might be worth it....if you really need the sleep....better find an out of the way campground.
Does anyone else have any other good 'short' stop ideas???

This is not my story but it's my in-laws. They were an their way to Raleigh NC for a 1.5 year transfer and decided to spend the time in their RV vice renting or buying. They got there a day early for their rental spot so they decided to spend the night at Wally World. Nice new clean parking lot and they went in to fill up on supplies to give their business to the place. The next morning around 7am the manager was pushing a shopping cart around with a coffee pot and donuts - knocking on all the RV door. His first statement was "you cannot camp here" then "how do you like your coffee?" and "what kind of danish would you like with that". Seems there is a local ordinance that forces his hand - but its only requirement and enforcement is that he has to tell you that you cannot stay there, so he does it each morning. No reason to be rude about it.

I've parked overnight in many a restaurant parking lot after enjoying dinner... and my excuse is that I don't want/need to drive until the cocktails wear off.

Generally very quiet after 10p.m. unlike Wal-Mart which seems to come alive at midnight.
Funny the comment about the lot sweepers... I've never had one come by but at 3 a.m. ..... 6 a.m. would be just fine by me.
All in all WM serves the needs of Americans who are taken in by the selection and price of their goods. This doesn't make them the best or the most desirable neighbors but it's hard to move an 800 lb. ape from his roost.
All my silk clothing comes from China, but again that's another story.

Cracker Barrel is also good about allowing overnight parking, just ask management first. Local ordinances may prohibit it.

Cracker Barrel is great for breakfast!!!..we stopped at many out east and south and at our last trip to Tucson..great potato cheese bake for breakfast!..bet that would be a great overnite place..you can even sit on their front porch and rock away on their rocking chairs for sale there!!!

Our RV driving coach taught us to park in a big store lot in a way that no one can box you in...first pick a place far from the entrance, that has several empty car spaces and that has a curb barrier at one end. Pull across the car spots and up near the barrier with enough room to pull out but not enough for a car or truck to park there.....sort of angle your tow vehicle out a little to make it easy to pull out and the trailer is tucked in behind......I would never have thought about it but it wouldn't be fun to come out of shopping at Target or WM and not be able to leave when we want.....pj
