I'm in for the night at a Wal-Mart just south of Raleigh. I have a business meeting tomorrow around dinner time and I'm wondering if anyone knows of a campground near RDU (Raleigh Durham Airport)?
I rained this afternoon and that cooled things off a bit.... man it's hot back here in NC/SC after spending two very cool weeks on the left coast of Oregon and N. California.

Yep! Here would be the WM camping rule if I ran the company. "Welcome RVers after dark. Please don't drive tired. No generators. Don't raise your awning, the sun sets in the west anyway, No dumping (including gray water), We sell tires and other stuff"

superwalmarts open 24 hours present no problem.a one nite stay,no dissaray,a thank you purchase pay,and be on your way! if you look like you are parked and not like you are camping ,things go uneventful.
I think richie makes a good point; look like you are parked.
Nova Scotia Walmarts have also responded to pressure from park operators and have prohibited overnight stays. My question is, what would these park operators do for someone who rolls in at, say 11 p.m., and hits the road again at 6:30 the next morning without even unhitching? Would there even be someone around to take our money?
The West Orange Wal-Mart is on the list of prohibited parking places. There is a Flying-J on I-10 that has regular group of RV parkers. They also have a dump facility at the RV island, and gas that is (almost) as cheap as the WalMart discounted price.
I have spent a number nights at WalMarts around. I think others are right that the key is to think of it as "parking" and not "camping" and everyone is all right.
Several WalMart haters here sure have valid points and no doubt WM has run out many small local businesses. But at 3:00 am they are open while the small businesses are closed (weekends too usually). It's much nicer to pay less for the same item. Still, it's a shame to see the personal attention and care of the small business owners go "with the wind."

Welll, there's a bit of a solution to that one. So park at the WalMart, but go purchase stuff at the smaller stores as "thank you" to the community.

I feel compelled to point out that WM started out as one of those small town businesses. They don’t run anyone out of business. WM became big because you the consumer vote every day. Your votes (dollars) say that you prefer WM over the little mom-n-pops. When they were a smaller company, everyone loved them, couldn’t get enough. Now society has determined that big corporation = evil so it's become popular to hate them.
Many businesses actually thrive when WM comes to town. They diversify and don’t try and compete on price. Some stores actually deliberately locate near WM’s to take advantage of all the traffic. Others, such as the sporting goods store here in my town (Clark’s All Sports) is a category killer in all things sporting, hunting, camping, etc. They can’t compete on price, so they don’t try. WM can’t compete with them on the selection.
Hardware/Paint is another category. WM brand paint is one of the top rated consumer brands for quality and price, but their “hardware” department is extremely basic. I much prefer the selection at Lowes or Home Depot. (Oops more big box evils). We don’t have either one in town, so I’m stuck with the overpriced local guys for my hardware and lumber needs.

I have stayed at WM several times and have never been the only RV there . It has been very conveinent when just traveling thru . That being said , I just returned from our local WM and found the classic jerk . They have been parked there for at least 2 days that I know of . The stableizers are down , the awning is out , the lawn chairs are under the trailer , the trash can is out , the slide out is out and the generator is running . This is what will bring it all to a halt .

You know, lately, I have found the small guys that have survived have a definite edge on both price and quality on the evil big box guys. Business has changed. It's very easy to compete with the mega stores. Simply offer service, knowledge and good quality. It works. At least in my town. Just try and get help or advice at a mega retailer...fuggeddabbouddit.

most 24 hour stores allow you too and the also have secrerity that drives around to make sure you are safe. I stayed at one in CO. and their were about 30 or more units

And their's is on the WM web site as 'NO OVERNIGHT PARKING' .....AND......there is a sign in red telling you so at the entrance. Still, there are the slobs that park there with jacks down and slide-outs extended. You should have seen the place over Labor Day weekend. You would have thought they were giving it away for free or something!
