Question Volvo SUV & Bambi??

Help...Is this a match made in heaven: the new Volvo XC90 (SUV) with tow capacity of 5,000 lbs and the Bambi? We are new to the travel trailer world and need help.

Thanks.

Send a message via AIM to Pick
Get a single axle Volvo Class 8 instead! Then you can pull anything.

I thought so. I looked into this. I believe the problem is in the hitch weight. While the towing capacity is good the lack of a conventional frame reduces the hitch weight capacity down to next to nothing, like 300 lbs. or something like this. I never went further since I bought a heavier trailer. Please check a little further before you jump!

Roxie,

Try the Vintageairstream.net web page classifieds for a Vintage Bambi. They were made much lighter than the newer models and can be towed with smaller vehicles. I recently read an Article in the Vintage Airstream club bulletin where an older one was specifically remodeled for a Volvo tow car. Naturally, you still need to check weights, etc., but I think that could be a solution.

Volvo ? Bambi

Hello Roxie;

I am envious. Would luv to have one of those Volvo SUV's to pull my 23.
The problem with many new unibody (combo) frame type vehicles is the lack of frame from the back axle to the rear bumper where the hitch needs to be attached. This factor limits the amount of weight that can be applied to the back of the vehicle.
A professional hitch installation facility would have the knowledge and expertice to fabricate a heavy duty platform in the rear of the vehicle to mount the hitch to. This has been proven work very well.
