Virginia State Inspection for TRAILERS!

Yes Virginia, We really do have to get our trailers inspected - another $16 per year to the State....

And of course none of the regular state inspection stations want to do trailers. (can't handle the length).

In the Virginia Beach area I know of one place to get your inspection done quickly and with minimum fuss.

ART WALKER Auto Service
2636 Dean Drive
Virginia Beach, VA 23452

(Dean Drive runs is a block long, off Lynnhaven Parkway just south of Virginia Beach Blvd. You can see Barrett Street Antique Warehouse from I-264 westbound if that's a help.) Get there before 8:00 and park in the Driveway, and go in the middle of the month! You'll be in and out quickly.

Last time I checked neither Snyder RV or the other RV place tucked off of Pennsylvania Ave did inspections.

I wouldn't be surprised if you could get a boat dealer to do state inspections though. There are several off of Shore Drive near Lynnhaven inlet - so I'd start by calling them.

Today is a gift, that's why they call it the present.

Right, Paula, we drove around for a full year before someone told us this, including several visits to our local Inspection Station. One of my WBCCI buddies noticed I didn't have a "sticker" on my A-Frame. He wondered if I'd put it somewhere else. Hmm . . . that was an eyeopener. My local mechanics here in the Rockfish Valley are great. Did it in a heartbeat. All legal now.

Nope -- Ain't just Republicans --- Welcome to New York State -- NYS Trailer inspection requires one wheel removed to see if you have brakes --- Fee for inspection is $6.00 --- The state charges the inspection station $4.00 for the sticker that is not affixed to the outside od the trailer.... Inspection station gets $2.00 for about 20 min work....Now the Lic plates are another matter....

Wow, I didn't know that. Does it apply to tow dollies? I never had mine inspected when I lived in VA.

In Maryland we just have to have it inspected when we buy it/bring it into the state. I'm not really sure what that accomplishes beyond making sure it's reasonably safe for a few months.

I'm not surprised. In Louisiana, anything that requires a license plate— including trailers— also requires an inspection sticker, renewed annually. Inspection fee is $10 per year, except it's higher in New Orleans where they use their own stickers instead of the state stickers. Fines for not having a valid inspection sticker range from $180 to $250 per offense.

Pa requires yearly inspections as well for all trailers over a certain weight rating, not sure what but around 2000 lbs.

So far New Jersey does NOT require trailer inspections. Haven't heard any rumors to that effect. SO no news is good news here in the Garden State.

Virginia requires trailers that have brakes to have annual inspections. Not so unreasonable, really.

Somebody, please, point me to the road.
