Virginia/North Carolina - Good Repair/Upgrade Shop?

I am starting down the east coast after hauling our 2004 28' International non-stop for the last 4 months. As we are leaving Boston I'm realizing I am going to need new tires and the wear is pointing to some potential issues with the axels.

I have read all the threads on going to 16 inch rims, as well as implementing the Dexter lift, but can anyone point me in the direction of a good shop as I head south where I can get new axels (if needed), the dexter lift, 16 in wheels and new LT tires without leaving the trailer (the family of 5's primary road residence) for more than a few days?

Since it will almost certainly take several weeks to order and have shipped the correct axles, I don't think you will find any repair shop able to perform the repairs you want in the five day time span you specify.

I'm looking at scheduling this at the end of the month, to give 3-4 weeks for ordering the necessary parts. If that helps.

Definitely Out of Doors Mart. That's where we bought ours and have had upgrade work and body repairs done. Very fine people.

I had a very bad experience with Out of Doors Mart, they damn near burned my trailer up with an unauthorized repair. When I pointed this out they wouldn't take responsibility for it had to get Airstream involved to get it fixed correctly.

I've taken several of my trailers to Out of Doors Mart over the last 20+ years. Always have been happy with their services and never had a problem. When I going to buy Airstream parts for repairs and maintenance I do myself, that's where I go.

Perhaps Colonial in Lakewood NJ? They've done good work for me.

And I'd check with them, but there is a good chance you can sleep in their lot.

(yes, I know NJ is north of where you are looking)

I too have had good service at Out of Doors Mart. In-between Winston-Salem and Greensboro on I-40.

For liability reasons, Colonial Airstream will NOT install the Dexter lift kit.

(I inquired this past winter.)

Colin Hyde, Plattsburg, NY, colin@colinhydetrailerrestorations.com, does not recommend lift kits either. He says the side loading on the lifts is a potential problem. He recommends the taller 35 degree axle torsion arms instead. If you need axles that would be the way to go. He has years of experience with Airstream.
