Sebastian Inlet
Sebastian Inlet State Park, FL. Here for a pet shakedown prior to hitting the road next month for Alumalina and Falluminum. So far, so good. Same site as in our avatar taken on our first shakedown trip.

No Disney World for me
I just don't understand getting away from it all and going to a Camp where your 5 feet from two other Campers. Not for me.

Hi, for those who live in the big city, five feet might be great.

A week go, we stayed at the KOA in Cortez,CO and the place was nearly empty. We were put along side another unit going the other direction. The lady in the other trailer smoked and the smell would enter our trailer since they were so close. Their two young children would run back and forth inside the trailer. Initially that was "cute" but became tiresome.
Fortunately, we were gone most of every day seeing the sights in Mesa Verde.
By contrast, we stayed at a state park, Aspen Glade camp ground about 15 miles West of Antonito, CA on highway 17, and the spots were far enough apart coupled with vegetation that one would have to work at seeing the nearest unit and we were fifty yards from the river.

Sounds awful, but if the KOA was mostly empty, why didn't you just move?

This was our first trip after only two weekend shake down trips. Traveled approx. 1000 mi RT & averaged 15-16 MPG. We were successful with our conservation efforts w/o hookups for 10 days....refilled fresh tank daily & topped off batteries with 2000 watt generator during designated op times w/o any issues. Our gent was the quietest one in our loop. Came home & we ready to go again in two weeks...the longer the trips ...the more anxious we become for the next adventure!

Please, FCloud9, will you elaborate upon your choice of generators and your decision process? Interesting that you were in a position to do some comparison to those operated by others over the holiday weekend. Thank you in advance.

View From Your Airstream Door
We bought a new Westinghouse i2000 watt generator online after we booked our trip in Adirondacks since no hookups at many state parks where we expect to camp.
We read a the portable generator threads on the forum where most members raved about Honda & Yamaha. However, we tend to utilize many we'll researched references & found the Westinghouse portable unit was rated high for efficiency & durability. Distinguishing Features Of Westinghouse Portable Generators
150 plus years of experience in power generation gives Westinghouse an impeccable reputation. Dedicated single lineup of portable generators that deliver progressively more power and better technology. Designed keeping ergonomics in mind. Engines R&D, manufacturing done in North America. Good and reliable customer service is reported by online owners but we have not had any issues thus far. I'm not a large person & my hands are often stiff & sore from rheumatoid arthritis, however, I cannot only unload it from the car but actually start it up quite easily.
Although our 2014 FC 20' FB is equipped to install solar; we preferred to have a variety of experiences competed before purchasing mor "stuff".
All camp meals prepared & cooked on propane cooktop , charcoal grill or over wood campfire. Attempted to warms side in microwave but too big amp draw. No biggie though...can live w/o micro convection as we will not likely buy another generator. Genny & gas can take up quite a bit of space in our Tourareg. I ha just purchased a Lodge Cast Iron Large Fajita Pan to expand healthy meal options over campfire with great success. Still considering Cobb Grill or thermo cooker....will see as we increase our travel expeditions. We could not be happier with our choice of our first Airstream FC FB 20'!!!

I read the details on the Westinghouse unit. Two missing items of importance - not pure sine wave output which is important for electronics and all engine components and generator made in China. Also, the sound (db level) is substantially higher than either Yamaha or Honda products....
