Venice/Sarasota Campground please

We would like to plan a thanksgiving weekend trip over to the Warm Springs Florida area to enjoy the mineral spring there. Does anybody have any experience with a quality campsite in that area? In my searches I came down to the Sun-N-Fun TV Resort in Sarasota. I also found this website www.campgroundreviews.com as somewhat helpfull. Checked Woodhalls and Good Sams website.

Sun-N-Fun Rv Resort

WE just returned from our holiday trip at the Sun-N-Fun Rv Resort. We had 3 choices and we picked this one because of the kiddie water park there. As it turned out our 12 year old was overaged for such. But the park is very impressive, very large, and has just received a national award for one of the best in the country. Well kept, extremely clean, new restrooms, very large heated pool and 2 jucuzzis which has their water changed every 48 hours. Long term bought cottages and every RV type in existence congregates there. Pool side bar and eats. 2 miles from Publix, Target, Sams Club, cinema, etc. lots of bike paths, RV wash, activities, lawn bowl, shuffleboard. Wi-fi and computer room. Its not wilderness. The lots are well sized for the unit one brings. Our only complaint was more of an existential one that questions the RV World. We were on the last 2 days sandwiched between 2 large Fleetwoods that looked absolutely new. Their height dwarfed us completely. The occupants were only seen once as they exited to jump into their dingys. We were of the minority that did not sport a "toy dog" accessory option. I think for our needs new to this RV recreation we will have to reexamine what type of place we want to "recreate" at! Whats the point? Maybe its too nice inside to come out and naturalize with the mosquitos. When I go to the trouble of running down the highway I do not want to set up camp on a concrete pad that offers me nothing other than a different GPS than my home!

Sometimes the sightings of those big RV shut-ins are more rare than bear in Yellowstone! We’ve notice the same behaviors and wondered why they ever left home.

I've been there twice and as a lowly trailer owner I've always been placed in the low rent district!

Just came back from our weekend in the same area where we stayed at Oscar Scherer State Park. Very nice camp area nestled in a oak hammock with extensive tree canopy along a stream. There is a swimming lake and plenty of hiking trails. Also a 30 mile Rail Trail cuts through the middle for biking. It is sandwiched in between residential development so all the commercial options are right out side the gate. Yet if you get out and hike around, it's amazing what you might see. We actually got within 30 yards of a bobcat and javelina. Makes the RV resorts all seem kinda tame!

The Right Place

Mojo,

Thanks for the review, next time I will go to Scherer. Would there be difficulty with a 31' AS?

Depends on each site specs, but there were some large Type A's in there and 98 camping slips. Also check out Myakka State Park just East of Bradenton about 10 miles. A little more remote but a very beautiful park as well. Also check Amazon for a book called Florida Camping (Moon Publishing). It has much better and honest reviews and ratings of state and private parks.
