use of desktop pc in coach

Since a desktop PC normally does not have a PCMCIA slot, you would need to get the USB version of the air card.

Verizon does make a USB version of their card and one version plugs into two USB ports for extra power or so they say. We can't tell the difference if one or two are plugged in but the thing works great on a desktop or laptop. Good luck.

We used an aircard in my Mac while we lived in our trailer. It worked well, but I did notice a tendency to use more bandwidth with a desktop computer. Watch your data to make sure you don't run over your limit, it gets expen$ive.

I am surprised you would have enough space to carry a Desktop PC even though it can be used with a USB broadband card.

I use a laptop and it works really well. The other advantage of the laptop other than size is that I can take it out to a picnic table to use it if I want to. Since laptops have a battery, one can use it at times when power is not readily available. Also, laptops generally do not create near as much heat as a desktop and use way less power which is a big benefit when boondocking.

i have a laptop as well, and since we are selling house and all i wanted to make room for my pc; so with the remodel of the bedroom i found a perfect space for a desk and a place for my pc....now that sprint device that can handle multipple computers sounds interesting....will have to investigate those

If you already have a PCMCIA air card you can get a router that you plug the card into and have both your PC and your laptop online at the same time. You could also setup a local wireless network for you laptop. I use two Apple Airport Express devices, one of which has the connector to the sound system so I can play iTunes from my laptop. I share out the iTunes songs on the PC over wireless to the laptop since my laptop does not have enough storage for all my music. Then, send the signal back over wireless to the sound system. I even have wireless network printing. (Used to be an IT guy)

My concern about a desktop is that they are not designed to be moved around. I would suspect that the components, HDDs especially, would be susceptible to the moving and shaking that goes on.

Amorous folks like the Tin Huts would need to be especially careful.

I have set up my laptop to share the internet connection from my broadband card and have a short crossover cable so my wife can plug her laptop into mine. This setup eliminates the need to have a router, which is just another device that needs to be plugged in somewhere and stored when not in use. It also eliminates the possibility of someone hacking into my wireless network.

One neat idea for a desktop pc was to locate the main chassis in the "storage" space under the arms on the side of the couch. The keyboard, mouse, etc was wireless and, enabled one to sit where-ever while using the pc.
Of course, for my purpose, a laptop is KING while on the road.

We have an iMac in our Safari. We use it for watching DVDs and when there is wifi in a campground. If there isn't wifi we use our iPhones for internet and email.
