USA 4 Corners trip

We are starting to plan our bucket trip around the USA to see each of the four corners. Has anyone done this trip and would like to pass on any pointers? We have a 25', 2009, classic, pulling with a 2012 Ford F-150 Eco boost. There are so far five of us in our group.

No, but that's my husband's idea for a dream trip too!!

We will soon leave on a 2 corners trip, from San Diego to Maine. Husband wants to first drive 15 miles south to the Mexican border, and start from there...just to be technically correct about hitting that corner!

The other corners will have to wait!

No for us also but that is one of our bucket trips also. We have all the N. Parks on list too and there is practically a NP in each corner of the USofA. Please write about it if you make the trip. Sounds very exciting.

Done it via motorcycle, but not on one trip. Would love to do it on one trip with my Avion. Jim

It's looking like about 5 to 6 months and about 10,000 miles. There is five RV's going sofar,

We are looking at May 1 2015, so far their are five RV's that will be traveling together. We all live in the Phoenix,AZ area and want to get out of the heat, plus see this great country, and southern Canada.

I hope that you'll keep posting about the trip. That's a whole year away, so maybe we'll be ready to do ALL the corners next year!! You never know!

We were just down there in April. We decided to visit some of the less-known ancestral Puebloan ruins, and spent a very pleasant 4 nights camping at Hovenweep National Monument in Utah, which was a jumping off point to visit the Canyons of the Ancients in adjacent Colorado. If you've not seen Mesa Verde in Colorado, we highly recommend it. To get into the major sites you have to purchase tickets for a naturalist-guided tour, and these can fill up so its best to get in line when the ticket desk opens. Several years ago we also enjoyed Bandolier, Chaco Canyon and Canyon de Chelly in northern New Mexico, but Bandolier was the only one where we could get a campsite, and the others are a long way from any alternative or overflow campgrounds. Except for a few at Mesa Verde, these are all boondocking sites, and it's best to come prepared with a big jerry can of water and a generator or solar panels.

A lot of the sites in Hovenweep are smallish. The ranger said the CG never fills up but apparently the gnats are bad there in June.

In Arizona, perhaps the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.

A lot of people also visit the actual 4 Corners monument and Monument Valley with its Navajo park but we can't comment on them. Some friends recently visited them and thought they were great. One of them was an old movie fan, so Monument Valley was his favourite place.

In Utah, we also visited the Goosenecks State Park, which is open for free boondocking around the rim. It is a big canyon overlook, with views of the San Juan River.

A lot of the four corners area is the Navajo reservation.

A few miles west of Hovenweep (17 Miles if memory serves) is Bluff. Sandy Beach Campground, good sites, $10 a night. Water and pit toilets, no power.

There is a lot of BLM land in that area for boon docking and lots of great hiking into Anasazi ruins, petroglyphs, and pictographs.

Umm...I think we were talking about the 4 corners of the US of A, not the 4 corners area of Utah, CO, AZ, and NM. If I'm wrong, ignore this comment.

Gosh-- but you do know about the Four Corners area of the Southwest? That automatically popped into my mind. Well worth putting on your bucket list, even if that isn't what the OP meant.

The 4 corners of the southwest is a side trip to the real 4 corners trip.. Jim

Sounds like a plan. We are now both retired and taking our "bucket" trip from the East or Mid East to the West late summer and into fall. Will travel the northern route in the summer and early fall and southern route in fall and back home. Sound be about 5,000 miles or a little more and two months.

when you get to the southeast corner you must spend time in the Florida Keys. Key West is touristy, but worth a few hours. The great highlight is the drive to Key West especially below Key Largo. There is great camping in the state parks in the Keys, but reservations are difficult to get. The private campgrounds are expensive.
