US2 between Burlington and Bangor?

At West Point, headed for Bangor. Looks like the scenic, avoid I95 route is north to Burlington and east to Bangor...

I seek enlightenment

Thanks

Where are you headed? We just came from Maine, detours to avoid tolls can be a bit long some times... between our phone and truck GPS we avoided all tolls though.

Why not go super scenic and stay on US1?

I have driven 2 many times although not recently so I can't speak for the condition of the road. It's a lovely drive and I highly recommend if you're not in a hurry. Also Route 22 I have also gone up and down a thousand times and ditto, a wonderful route and usually not a lot of traffic, especially in the daytime. Will put you on route 7 towards BTV.

Thanks, folks. Sorry to say I just saw your posts as I had already made Bangor by the the 11th...

The great news is I came up US1 so I am headed west on US2 to Burlington this week so both replies are extremely useful and appreciated!

I just drove 2 from Burlington to Guildhall and back last week. It's so beautiful but a bit of a teeth knacker east of Montpelier for about 20 miles (?). Would be curious to know if you just cruise over that kind of turbulence or if you slow down a lot. I felt the need to slow down a lot...but I might be overly cautious.

West Point to Bangor

Wow, hope you have a lot of time. There are so many interesting places to see between these two cities. In our travels we headed North to Rhinebeck, NY for the weekend antique airshow, a visit to the FDR library and dinner at the CIA. Continue North East along US 22 to the Green Mountains then to Lincoln, NH. A great little campground, Country Bumpkins, in Lincoln with sites which back right onto the river. Don't forget to visit Mt Washington. Leave Lincoln on the Kancamagus Highway and work your way to Poland Springs Maine. A lot of things to see and do here. The poland springs campground has access to a nice lake with kayaking and water sports. There is an old Shaker Village nearby and of course the old poland springs resort. After poland springs you can take us 202 to Bangor or work your way to I95 which is not bad from Augusta to Bangor.

Safe Travels!

Thanks all! We are westbound tomorrow to Twin Mountains then more or less towards Saratoga and then, who knows?

And yes, Farafield, I do go easy when the road gets challenging. No need to beat the trailer or the travelers up...

I found this VTrans web page with road conditions (pavement not weather) in the state. I'm heading back up to the Northeast Kingdom and would prefer not to get my brain rattled around anymore that is necessary haha so it looks like another route is better. Yay.
