Trip to VT Academy, NM -- Info along the way please.

We are thinking about overnighting in the following locations, and was wondering if anyone has any knowledge about them and if so, would you please share? Looking for info on distance from routes we've chosen (drive time), how safe is the area we're looking at to overnight in, do you all know of another place in the general area which would work out better for us? Also, if you know of the road conditions for the routes we've chosen (winding/curvy roads, roads needing repaved) -- I'll list those too.

First night -- KY Dam Village State Resort, Gilberstville, KY, taking I-69 out of Lexington, KY (doing this to avoid going thru Nashville, KY which can be a parking lot at times).

Second night -- Shores Lake Rec. Area in the Ozark National Forest, Mulberry, Arkansas, taking I-40 West.

Third night -- Lake McLellon Campground, USDA Forest Svc., Pampa, TX, still on I-40 West.

None of this is set in stone for us. DH wants to get out there rather quickly so we'll have some time to look around before the Academy begins. We've changed our minds about where to stay, so not certain if this still holds true, but I think we tried to make the first two days the longest @ around 7 1/4hrs. each and then the last two days around 5 1/2hrs. drive time.

Thanks so much for anyone sharing info.

Lower corner of KY, we use Duck Creek RV Park, near Paducah. KY Dam Village gets average reviews on line. Can't remember where we stayed near Ft. Smith, AR, last time (moving fast, sleeping fast), AND if you're going to make it all the way to the Amarillo area BE SURE to stay just south of there in the Palo Duro Canyon State Park. THAT is a destination for us everytime we head toward ABQ. Don't Miss It.
