Trip to Vegas in Dec. -where to stay?

So we have to take a short trip to Vegas in Dec. for a dance competition. We're considering taking the Airstream. I still find the planning process for trips and where to stay a little overwhelming. We just started "Airstreaming" earlier this year.

So, I'm wondering what is the nicest place to stay right in Las Vegas for the competition weekend? Is there an Airstream RV Resort there?

I'm also considering extending our trip and visiting some sites nearby or between Central Utah and Las Vegas to make the trip more worth our while. Can anyone recommend some cool US or State Park Campgrounds or something like that where we wouldn't be completely freezing our buns off in Dec.? Thanks!

You might want to look at Las Vegas Oasis RV Resort. It is at the south end of the strip, across the freeway from Bass Pro Shop/Silverton Casino. DW and I have stayed there several times in addition we held the 2007 Region 12 Rally there. Good Luck with the dance competition.

I stay at Las Vegas RV Resort on S. Nellis. It's a nice place and safe, and a lot less expensive than Oasis. It's my 'go to' spot in LV. It's on the east side of town, near the Boulder Hwy and Flamingo.

We've stayed at Oasis Las Vegas a couple of times. It is truly a RV resort and very convenient to casinos on the strip. As far as a warm place to stay in December you might check-out Death Valley. Otherwise I would guess you would have to go as far south as Los Angeles or Phoenix. It is probably too far from Vegas but we recently spent a couple of nights in Catalina State Park near Tucson. A very nice park in a lovely setting at the base of the Catalina Mountains.
Best of luck with the dance competition!!!

Remember its not the destination, but rather the journey.... its what's in the middle that matters the most!

Not too convenient to the Las Vegas downtown and strip area, but Valley of Fire has wonderful campgrounds with many camping spaces that are right in the middle of the rock formations. The campgrounds have been featured in Sunset magazine and other places, as it is about as photogenic as a place can get. Perhaps for before or after? It's likely to be chilly in December (I guess you should check to make sure it's open in the winter) but not freezing cold. Probably will be about the right temperature for a brisk hike in sweaters, ear muffs and gloves, followed by some wine and hors d'oeuvres in the Airstream.

Do yourself a favour and take the Charlie M advise. This is a nice spot and very central.

When passing through Las Vegas we stay at Main Street Station. Not a resort. A large blacktop area. Mostly smaller backins, several large pull throughs. All with full hookups. Located two blocks from Fremont St. Pull throughs were under $20 when we were there two years ago.

Thank you for all the great suggestions! I was looking at Las Vegas RV Resort looked decent and well priced. I'll have to look into Oasis.

I was also looking into Valley of Fire State Park maybe before we get there or when we leave since it's right on our travel path. Now it's a matter of how much time we have. (Also, the dance competition is more my son. I don't dance : )

RV Parks in Las Vegas

I travel with Irish Wolfhounds & "Wallis"--my Airstream--so always looking for great places for my dogs. 'We' stayed at the Oasis last April & would definitely return--a very nice stop for 2 and 4-legged alike!

We loved Valley of Fire - it's Red Rocks on steroids. Mostly 'to do' is hiking and enjoying stunning scenery and lots of photo opportunities. Everything opposite of Las Vegas.

Another vote for the Oasis. Convenient to the strip
