Trip ruined by an 18 year old driver!

On Sunday while driving through Fort Worth, Texas headed home after almost 5 months on the road we were hit by a 18 year old driver. He was attempting to merge into our lane and either saw the truck and not the trailer or just blew it. The kid slammed into the left side of our trailer, bounced off and hit it again. He then flew across six lanes of I-20 and bounced off a couple other cars.
The kid was taken by ambulance, his car on a wrecker. Our Airstream is drivable and we're now in Amarillo headed home. It's very ugly, the entire left side is torn up, door for external shower gone, the panel by the furnace exhaust bent, most of the forward facia (dark gray or brown under the aluminum) is badly bent. The floor and wall inside the front bedroom is bulging upward and inward.
All the drawers flew out, one drawer front came off (I glued it back on), the sliding plexiglass panels over the dinette came out and the tracks are loose (painters tape).
We'll get home in a week or so then empty the trailer and tow it to George Sutton for what I'm sure will be a long stay. I'm hopeful the kid had more than bare minimum insurance but mine should make me whole.
It's a 2012 27FB International.

Not as bad as it could of been. Glad you're ok and safe. But man, what a bummer and a shame. Hope you get restored to whole.

A bummer for certain. Material items can be fixed or replaced though that doesn't lessen the angst and disappointment you surely feel. Hang in there and hopefully this will be resolved to your satisfaction.

Glad that you weren't the ones taking the ambulance ride.

Sad to hear. Glad y'all were not injured. The Airstream can be made whole again.

Incredible. How do you miss an Airstream. How do you manage to hit it twice!?

I just don't understand how some people are such bad drivers. I remember driving to SFO airport at 4am. Perfectly clear road. Someone comes up an on-ramp at 90mph and instead of joining the freeway just slams into the left-hand concrete wall right in front of me. No brakes, no attempt to steer. I swerve as best I can and collect a few bits of debris, thankful it wasn't worse.

I hope insurance pays up quickly.
Might you get a write-off and a new Airstream out of it? Wishing you well.

Mark,

Again, it is good to hear that both of you are ok. I'm glad you were able to maintain control of your vehicle after being hit twice, I'm sure your pilot experience helped!!
I know George Sutton will do a good job on the repairs.

Glad you're physically ok and hope the kid isn't badly hurt.

It's unfair to say this - but was texting involved? Nothing makes me angrier or more scared when I'm towing the AS and can see other drivers in the road LOOKING DOWN AT THEIR SCREENS AND TEXTING!!!!!!

Hope all pans out for everyone.

Please, World - stop texting and driving!!!!

It was the Sunday of daylight savings time, the kid was 18 and I would not be surprised if he was texting on top of everything else it was raining.

Back in '86 I was going through Las Vegas on the freeway , I was the only car on that section of road, when up the on ramp comes some idiot do 70+ and accelerating on a collision course with me. I punched it and he went by behind me straight into the center divider . He missed me by that much

Hi, it sounds like just poor judgment or an accident; In other words, not reckless driving. So yes, we would be concerned about the 18 year old kid too.
I have seen so many people merging into traffic, Looking at the last second to see me, and I wonder if they even seen my trailer. I've had some close ones, but no hits yet. I think a few of them thought it was my fault for being where they want to be, but most of them realized that they weren't thinking about a trailer.
