Just returned from a trip of Upper NY State area including the following; Howe Caverns (very cool), Niagara Falls, Letchworth SP (a must see if in the area). We covered 1268 miles total and saw only one other AS the entire week; appeared to be a 28’ (?) Excella 500 right around the corner from us at Niagara Falls, had Fla. plates, stopped by twice to say hello, but no-one was aroundL. I have never seen so many RV’s as we did going across NY thru-way…hundreds! (And we had the only AS!). The AS and DuraMax both performed flawlessly, although we did come home with an un-invited guest (mouse). I threw the cat inside when we got home and suggested he earn his keep for a change! We averaged 14mpg at 63 mph with 50 gals fresh on the way up, but I don’t usually tow with that much H20. Trip home was one straight shot (422 miles) so I violated my usually conservative towing speed and bumped it up to 65 mph. With 25 gals fresh, we averaged 15 mpg on the way home. Did not bring any boats (kayaks, canoes) on this trip. Half the week we were “traveling” not camping and we really appreciated having the AS as a home base. (Guess we feel a little better about putting that new fridge in last month).Much better than a hotel. The second half of the week, at Letchworth, was beautiful. Put it on your list if you will be in the area. All in all, a great week, no troubles, got to see LOTS of neat places. Real glad to have a ¾ ton for a trip like this; relaxed at the end of the day, and plenty of capacity to pull all that NY wine home!
If anyone would like info on any of the stops we made-just ask, I can provide details.
Bill

As far as camp sites; we stayed at KOA Grand Isle while at Niagara. Not bad, not great. It is very convenient to the Falls (5-10 mins.) We did not spend much time hanging out there and made a fine home base. If you go, get one of the "back-in sites around the outside. We had one of these, and they were large by KOA standards, and afforded a bit of space. There are also a few State Parks close by; New York State Parks :: State Parks
NY State Parks are pretty nice, and many have electric hook ups.

Nice Pics. My parents first took us to Letchworth State Park in 1957 in the Fall with the coloured leaves everywhere. It was quite a sight. We are booked to go back there for the Canadian Thanksgiving this October. Looking forward to it.

Come to the Adirondack's<><>the largest State Park in the Country. In the Fall if you want to be blown away!!! Glad to hear you enjoyed Western N.Y. Keep on Stream'n
Great photos. This is what Airstreaming can be all about - a lifetime of memories every time you get out and use it. Thanks so much for sharing them. Nice looking set up by the way. I'll bet it gets a lot of attention heading down the highway with all those SOB's out there no one seems to notice.

Good photos and thanks for sharing. We found the Lake Placid KOA to be one of the best of the few we've stayed in. Lots of tall trees (and tree sap) and lots of space between rigs with 50' sites. We need to go back to upstate NY and explore some more including Niagra Falls now that we've seen your picturs. Thanks again. HAPPY TRAILS
Yes, it was a great trip. We had not been out that way in some time, but have vowed to get there more often. Upper NY State is beautiful and the State Parks are well maintained. The Adirondacks are definitely on the list!
Heading for NH this week! Got to go get ready...

Hi Robert, we almost got a PWD last year (got our "rescue" Lab instead) but I did speak with several of the local breeders. Beautiful dogs...we still love our Lab though!
Heading for NH next (twice this month actualy!)

I grew up in Niagara and I know that this sounds un-American but, get or take your passports and go to the Canadian side. Believe me it is worth it! I have to encourage you to tour the state in the fall it has to be the prettiest state for that time of year. Right now it would be nice to be there with as hot as it has been in the south.
We are going to Maine at the end of the month a pm with any info about campgrounds or points of interest in NH or VT would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, NY (the real part of NY - Upstate that is) is one beautiful area. Too bad you did not take SR 23 across from Ithaca to Oneonta as you would have at least seen our 4 Airstreams in the yard. Next time, stop in, as we have Courtesy Parking out in the country.
