We are up here in Nova Scotia as I type this! We have visited PEI, Cape Breton and are going down the east coast of Nova Scotia. Stop at the information booths. They will give you maps of all the Provincial Parks. Some have already closed for the season.
Can not help you with Newfoundland!

An unbelievable amount of rain in St John yesterday. We still ventured downtown to the City Market. Roads were beginning to flood and several wer closed due to the deep water. When we made it back to our campground at Rockwood Park, almost all the roads were under water. It was something. Rain and high winds continued all night, still raining when we woke up. Forecast did not show much improvement so we headed out to St Andrews...here it is blue skies, nice breeze, great campsite at Kiwanis Ocean View Campground. More later.

Spent two great days in St Andrew, rely neat town, and the Kiwanis campground is great,. We learned that the ferry had one more day of operation so we took it to Deer Island and Campobella. Did the FDR thing, walked the island a bit and camped at Herring Cove PP, biggest sites I have seen, at least in the middle loop. Very nice campground, electric only. We took the bridge to Lubec and stopped at Quoody Lighthouse, so back in the USA.

So our fantastic trip through the maritime islands is over (at least this trip).

We really had a great time...will catch up on some photos later....eh!

Sad to hear the trip is over. If you have enjoyed the experience half as much as I (and many others I suspect) have enjoyed reading about it then you must be tickled pink!

Hope to see you back here.

Don

It's really hard to believe that the all the roads were under water since most of St. John is on a slope. Good thing Rockwood Park is at the top of a hill.

I have never had good weather in St. John. We were there during the month of "Fogust". Couldn't see a thing. I spent a few weeks working there years ago in the winter and had 3 major snow storms during that time. We have also gone there to visit friends for the last 3. I just can't remember a time when the weather was nice. It's a good thing I don't need to live there.

Welcome back to the US. I hope the border guards were kind to you. I'm sure you'll have more to report on your way south.

You are not quite assimilated. Probably got out just in time. You have to have a question in front of "eh".
As in, How's it going, eh? Or, even better, How's your beer, eh? A couple of months in Alberta and you would be fixed up just right. Jim

Well I thought about that.... But, seems as though after making a statement, ya'll add right?...making a statement a question! But that's like heading north on the Norther Penisa
You go down to St Anthony, or when driving south on the Irish Loop you drive up the loop!...

Do I get partial credit for correct spelling, eh?

You bet. When in Newfoundland or Cape Briton, I got used to the local vernacular after a while but they always got the final chuckle since its fun to play with the mainlanders a bit. Especially since we listen so slowly. Jim

Gene, absolutely no problem at the border crossing at Lubec ME. Camped in Acadia NP, Cadillac MT is fantastic. Stopped at Camden SP and heading to Freeport. Wanted to camp at Sebago SP, no dogs allowed, so we are looking for an alternative. Any suggestions for there and White Mountains in NH?

When did all this "no dog" policy start in the state parks and even in some commercial parks? Sebago Lake SP, no pets, several camogrounds not have pet areas and they are booked but space is available in the no pet area....PITA!!!

It started the same way it all goes downhill.

The few, the privileged, the better than, the not me, the I'm so special, the how dare you, the don't tell me what to do, the oblivious, the my dog doesn't bite/jump/bark/poo etc. The........insert your own words.

Those folks decided not to pick up their poo, not to leash, not to quiet, not to attend to, not to be responsible if they bit.

Those few messed it up for those loving responsible pet owners.

Silver Eagle, you would be right. It could apply in many ways.

You might want to add to this, get a service dog as it is a license to do all of the above and be outside the rules of common sense.

Camped in White Mts. National Forest this summer enroute to coastal Maine. Really enjoyed "dog friendly" Dolly Copp on Rt. 16 in Campton, NH. We arrived early (before 11 AM) and we're lucky enough to camp right on the Peabody River a non- reservable site. Just loved hearing the flowing river each night! As a National Preserve a Golden Age Passport nightly charge of $11 was a real bargain.

Really enjoyed your travel adventures....thanks for sharing,

Newfoundland

We just finishing traveling in Newfoundland. The advice on this forum was spot on. Thanks all. Newfoundland is beyond wonderful and the people there are the best I have ever met. We went on the Viking Caravan and while fun, I would suggest to anyone considering, to do this great trip on your own. With the advice on this forum you will see and do everything. We wish we had.

Happy traveling.
