This is Cedar Cove and I'm looking for potential walking sticks. This has to be the driftwood capital of the world!

Last photo from Blow Me Down PP. Kayaking the Bay of Islands. This is a beautiful place, and well worth your time to visit.

We leave NL this coming Tuesday. We are currently in Grand Codroy, and today went to Rose Blance, lunch at the Seashore Restaurant and spent some time in Port Au Basque. I'm trying to arrange a river kayak trip of about 20km, so stopped at the visitor center to see if they had any info about places to put in/out. They informed us that the ferry from Argentia was canceled, not sure how long. We confirmed our res for Tuesday with the ferry terminal, and indeed the ferry was canceled. Not sure for how long. Needless to say the port Au Basque ferry is just about full up.

At any rate, trying to catch up on my photos and posting before we head over to Cape Breton.

After departing Blow Me Down, we headed to Burgeo. Weather forecast for the next several days we were to be there was sunny, 10% chance of rain. The day we arrived the weather was great. We got settled in the campground at Sandbanks PP, and starting doing some of the hikes. Wednesday's are probably the best day to take the ferry to the island of Ramea, about 1 hr 45 min one way. With truck, two seniors, it was $8.25 CA one way. We left at 9:30 AM and returned about 8:30 PM that evening. Weather started deteriorating halfway there and when we arrived, there were gray skies, low ceilings, visibility about 3 mi. The lighthouse was being restored, so it was encased in a plywood structure so they could work on it. There is a trail that goes around the island, a combination of boardwalks and roadways. Ramea's population peaked around 1,750 people and has declined to around 500 today. As with many areas we have visited, the fish processing has closed. Not much to keep the young folk wanting to stay.

The next couple days at Burgeo, the weather got worse. I guess the powers to be wanted us to experience as much Newfoundlander weather as possible. It did not stop us for hiking every trail we could find and visiting with, any of the local folks who visit Sandbanks every day. All in all, a good visit, only downside, we were not able to kayak.

I'll size up some photos and get them loaded.

Part of the boardwalk trail rapid the island. Takes about 2-3 hours of walking, with picture taking, and Jake sniffing every blade of grass along the way.

In post above, rapid should read around....didn't catch autocorrect.

After leaving Burgeo, we had planned to stay on Port Au Port. The two campgrounds out there were not so great. We ended up at Pirates Haven, an ATV friendly RV Park. Pulling in to the gate, we were a little leary....ATV's were everywhere. Came to there lodge for check in, music blaring from inside, and people enjoying themselves. Then I heard my name called. It was Ruth, the owner. I had spoken to her on the phone to see if she had space. I was at first surprised she remembered my name. She laughed and said she knew it was us...not too many shiny tubes around her. It was the last day of their festival and we arrived just in time. We were invited in to enjoy great local musicians, food, and once again a wonderful opportunity to meet and talk with Newfoundlanders. Ruth set us up with a day rental for a side by side ATV to explore the T'Trail. We had a blast. Went from the bluff along the coast to around 35 miles or so down the trail. Next time I'll plan a trip from Miilertown to Howley!!! Start to another bucket list trip.

Here is "our" ATV.

One of the many rivers we crossed. Got to figure out how to get a kayak rack on one of these things.

On all of our travels since we started hauling our airstream around, I have always told Jeanne, if there is a road, let's take it. On "this road", she said no.
