In search of another lighthouse, we headed up to Cape Norman. After passing through Cook's Harbour, we could see the lighthouse a mile or so away. As we drove along, we noticed that the terrain had significantly changed and this "cape" was barren and isolated. Then we saw this sign. I told Jake he had to be careful!

This picture shows the terrain around the Cape Norman lighthouse. It extended down to Cook's Harbour, about two miles away. Then, trees, bogs and peer. But around the cape it was nearly 100% bare rock, with the exception of these little rare plants. Quite remarkable, that these two little plants only grow in the small corner of the world, on this particular rock.

Prior to leaving the lighthouse, we saw this iceberg. Best guess, this was about 3-4 miles out, so it must have been huge. We have been lucky seeing icebergs.

If you have been to Newfoundland, you see the wood stacked up along the road, see the fenced gardens out in the middle of nowhere, lobster traps stacked seemingly far from the ocean, and you begin to understand what these folk have to do to carve out a life and to live in this great province.

I kept seeing these doors to nowhere. They were anywhere from four feet above the ground all the way up to the second floor. No stoop. No steps. No deck. Almost like a clif. Now, I am a good ole southern boy, not used to lots of snow. So I assumed these doors had something to do with how high the snow got and it was a way out. One evening sitting with some Newfoundlanders enjoying a drink together I brought up the mystery of these doors. Without hesitation, they all chimed in that these were "mother-law-doors". Everytime I see one of these I still chuckle!!!

BTW...it has something to do with basements and codes. I like the other story better!!!

After we left St Anthony we headed southeast towards Roddickton and Englee, on the east coast of the Northern Peninsula. Once again, the terrain is significantly different. Rolling hills that get steeper and some heavy forest. We turned into Roddickton to get better directions to the campground at Bide Arm. After getting directions we followed the road that loops through town. At the southern end of the road is a harbour and this picture is what we saw. I walked back up to where I got directions to see if there was any history on the two boats. Unfortunately the younger gentlemen did not know.

Regardless, this is one of my favorite photos on this trip...who knows, this could be the long lost "Black Pearl"!!!

CAMPGROUND UPDATE: forget to mention where we stayed at St Anthony....triple Falls RV park. Very nice staff, we were in the front big lot next to the building. We got wifi in our trailer with our booster. Bathrooms were clean and water hot with great pressure. Sites were on the small size and a little too narrow for me. If I were to stop here, no problem giving a recommendation and "I'd stay again". However, the dump site was filthy...use your imagination. I let the manager know.
For that reason, I would not recommend.

Bide Arm just south of Roddicton. Very small loop,,all back in, some elec, some water...ok for a night. Caution: when we were there the gravel was very loose and quite deep.

Frustration to the max. I have tried posting more than one pic with our computer, iPhone, and iPad...no luck. Now, I write the text, post the single photo, preview the post, and photo then submit for posting and NOTHING. We have thousands of photos, great experiences to share and the time it takes to post one photo is bs. We have great wifi where we are, my wife post to Facebook with No problems, but here...ready to quit. You want photos and my stories, pm me with your email and I will start sending out emails... No problem there, been sending 6-7 at a time.
Vent over. Out.

Greetings John

Sorry to hear your still having trouble with images in your posts. I just took a look at your post #328 and noted the image you posted was 1600 x 1063 in size. This might be part of your problem as I'm guessing the site software has some type of size limit.

I'm not sure what your using for software to reduce a pic down on your computer before you post it. Maybe try to reduce your size down to say 750 the long dimension before you try to upload. Also reduce the quality to about 70% as that will reduce the file size in a big way. With a little luck this might help your situation.

If you want I can always contact you via FaceTime and try and walk you through the process if that helps. Just send me a PM......

CHEERS
DOUG

This is the view from South Head hiking trail that takes you out to the edge of the Bay of Islands...truly fantastic views. There is a point that the hike ascends at what must be a nearly 45 degree angle, no switchbacks, only one 45 degree turn. Well worth it.
