Here is that picture of Old Fort Bay in Quebec, just south of the Labrador ferry. Still have not found anything on the Internet. Just very interesting that it is the only sign we have seen in any part of Quebec that is only in English.

We are at Pirate's Haven RV Park and Chalets and ATV campground. Local guy in Burgeon told me about it. We arrived in the middle of this festival. We enjoyed listening to some grat music and visiting with all the local folk who camp here. Of course I enjoyed a large order of fresh cut French fries. Ruth, the owner has been a fantastic hostess and has arranged the ATV day outing for us tomorrow. On Wed we are working on a kayak trip on the Fischels River...does not look real good as it is a low River with lots of rocks...at least in the immediate area. We'll keep checking and come up with something.

You grew up in a great area!!!

ID:	246254This is the old railway tressel at Fischelle's River. Last month we took my side by side and drove the rail bed between St. George's and Heatherton, and stopped to swim in the river at the tressel. Most of the rail bed it is grown in with alders so you cannot see much. Maybe you will have better luck Robinsons and south. My SxS is still in Corner Brook. I'm coming out to get it and the cargo trailer for a few days of salmon fishing on the Humber. this Sunday. Strictly a boys trip this time, no AS - we will set up cots and sleep in the cargo trailer. I modified it for this purpose, adding windows, roof vents, solar power, carbon monoxide and smoke detectors. Looking forward to hearing how you make out.

Fischelle's will not have enough water to kayak - it has always been a shallow river. You may have better luck on Crabbes or Robinsons. I would think the best rivers for boating in the area are the Humber (which is behind you) or the Codroy (which is south of you). Both are big enough to be enjoyed. We canoed little Barachois Brook last year - from the provincial park to the ocean. Great trip but the water was low and we walked quite a bit. Kids loved it though.

If you spend any time around Port aux Basques there is a restored stone lighthouse in Rose Blanche. Nice walking trail out to it as I remember.

Will let you know how the trip goes.

We leave here on Thursday or Friday and head to Grand Codroy for our last 5 days or so. Still would like to meet for a beer!

Far as I know The Airstreamers Club is open to everyone, but I must be the only member from Newfoundland. Tell you what, if you find your way back here some time we will have to have that meeting and a few refreshments.

I hear you about the temperature. We lived in Houston for several years and I think my blood thinned. I will never forget the day we arrived back on the island. Middle of summer and we were so cold my wife and I were wearing sweaters while our relatives were in shorts and tee shirts. Took a few months to acclimatize. .

Back to catching up on photos.

One of the local campers we met at Lomond River told us about the artwork inside the rotunda of the St Anthony hospital. Here is just a sample. These are ceramic tiles and the work is exquisite, encompassing the entire wall of the rotunda.

Once again, tap on the photo for a larger version.

We enjoyed hiking the trails at Fishing point and visiting the lighthouse. L'Anse Meadows is well worth the visit. We took the tour which was excellent and enjoyed the film also. Everybody has this photo...here is mine.

We drove up to Ships Cove in search of a place to kayak. There is a nice viewpoint a the top of a bluff. I happened to see the small cove to our left, it happened to be Cape Onion. The White House is Tickle Inn, owned by Mr D.R. Adams.

We met Mr Adams and he invited us to walk up along the coast to the top of his property. He said the whales were playing.

After hiking up to the top of his property, we were rewarded with a fantastic view, and the whales were indeed playing. We couldn't count the number of "blows" fast enough. There had to be a huge pod of about 35 whales. Sad to say, my lens was not powerful enough to capture their play time. When they breached, I was not fast enough to get the photo. So....the only proof I have is this big splash.....sorry!
