DMT, when we go to Port Au Port for a four days, should we stay at Barachois Pond PP or try for Picadilly?

Depends on what you are looking for. I've never stayed at Piccadilly Head but it is on the ocean with what appears to be a good looking beach. Have no idea of the services provided. About a decade ago many of the Provincial Parks were privatized - this is likely one of them I suspect. If so there should be water and a dumping station, maybe the new owners put in electrical. Balachois Pond Provincial Park is set in a mountain valley alongside Balachois Pond, which is quite large. There is a comfort station with laundry facilities, water filling station and dumping. We like it as we usually get a pond front site so the kids (and the dog) can swim and play. Decent hiking trail up Erin Mountain as well. Both parks will allow an easy day trip around Port au Port - Piccadilly Head is on the peninsula of course while Balachois is about 30 minutes from Stephenville. One thing that bugs me about Provincial and private parks here on the island is the increasing number of sites taken up as seasonal sites. Seeing decks and patio furniture around a camper takes away from the experience in my opinion, and make it feel like you are invading someone's private property. There will be some of this at either of these parks. Kudos for the National Parks for avoiding or limiting this and staying true to their mandate. Good luck with your choice - look forward to reading the result. (BTW - have you noticed the number of views of your thread - astonishing!)

Check out Alpacas of Newfoundland in Felix Cove. I bought a pair of Alpaca wool socks there last year. Lots of nice locally made clothing from the Alpacas just outside the door.

Will your trip include the Codroy Valley?

DMT, thanks for the info. We have reservations at Barachois Pond, only other time we made res was at Pippy Park. We were told by some local folks at Corner Brook, that due to the seasonal campers, Barachois is like a small city of 700 people, a very, very busy park. I called Picadilly and they said we could stay on the Beach, but since it was over a weekend, the beach would be like a kids playground...we may just stay with the PP and do a couple day trips out to Port au Port.

How many folks are in TAC-NFL?....do,they allow honorary members!?

Still working on the photo debacle...only one at a time, and then even after they load, I preview the post and no photo...will keep trying, but frustrating....

Far as I know I'm the only member. Guess that makes me CEO, President, VP and Secretary of the Outdoors. Maybe I'll call a meeting, issue a few directives, approve the budget, take some minutes and pass out congratulations before the party favors.

There is someone else here on the island with a Airstream I think. Met him briefly in Gros Morne in 2011. Had a 23' International and wasn't the conversational type. From Corner Brook as I recall which is odd as I grew up there and if I didn't know most I had friends that did, as things are in small towns. Have no idea if he is still there. In five summers I have never crossed paths with another local pulling aluminum. Shame as the often high winds here are a non-issue when towing the silver bullet. Plus AS'ers are such nice people😊 We often have total strangers approach to inquire what the inside looks like. Mostly while camping but a few times while parked at home. Usually ends up in new friends and a dent in the wine inventory.

One of the earlier post on this thread is from a guy who lives in Corner Brook, we actually we're camped next to him at Eastport, I think he had an Excella.

When you have your TAC meeting, if you decide to allow associate members, I'd join.

We have a lot of catching up to do on posting and trying to load photos. We are currently in Burgeo, taking the ferry to Ramea, weather permitting.

More later.

Going way back in time catch up on pics.

This was at Gros Morne RV Park in Rocky Harbour around 3 PM. This guy walked right up to the back of our trailer. NOTE: That is not a miniature picnic table!!!

After four great days at Cow Head, it was time to head north and take the ferry to Labrador. We had planned to stay at the RV park at St Barbe, made a last minute change and turned in to Port Au Choix and unexpectedly ran into, the AS caravan at Ocean Side campground. The campground manager put us on the backside of the office with w/e and great wifi. We enjoyed the evening with the NL folks parked next to us. Enjoyed going to,the lighthouse, walking the trails, seeing the ruins and visiting the intrepretive center.

We spent four nights in Labrador at L'Anse Au Claire. We camped at Northern Lites, a hotel with an RV park across the street. Full hook ups, wifi, good washrooms and all the services of the hotel available. Not a pretty campground, but served the purpose. We had great weather the entire time. Only one day were the flies really bad. In this pic, Jake is ready to head north to Mary's Harbour.
