1. Ricky -- I don't believe we've met. I live near John and Penny Thompson so I am seldom there unless I need to use their dump station. Holler up next time your down!

2. Bahia Honda (recommended in a previous post) has now set aside 10 sites as "walk-up" only. If you are at the gate, ready to camp at 2:00 pm on a weekday there is an excellent chance you will get in.

3. Curry Hammock State Park (near Bahia Honda) is now open in the Summer for the first time so reservations are available. Unfortunately this park was replanted with native trees only three years ago so there is NO shade. This time of year it's a challenge to the best of A/C's.

I second that! We've been down to the Keys a number of times (never camping--too far for us), but we go to Bahia Honda SP every time. The beach is very nice (voted one of the top ten in the US) and snorkeling is good too. They have snorkeling tours there too. We've gone down twice in June. True, it's hot. We love to do water things (scuba, fishing, snorkeling), so we just stayed near or in the water all day.
Another good place to go is John Pennicamp (sp?) State Park. I don't think they have camping there, but they have a pretty cool beach with snorkeling and HUGE tarpon swimming around. They also have snorkel & scuba tours there. Really cool!
I'm jealous....have a great time!

Pennekamp has camping! As usual with Fla State Parks it water/elec only but the sites are reasonably comfy and, as stated, there is lots to do.

Kayak rentals, boat rentals, snorkel trips....
