Trip Planning - Canadian Rockies

We'll be spending this July and August traveling throughout the Canadian Rockies. Starting from Glacier National Park in late June, we plan to work our way up to Banff and Jasper National Parks while stopping at many of the Provincial Parks along the way. We'll end our trip in Vancouver in late August. Question: Are campground reservations necessary for July and August? We prefer National and Provincial Parks with occasional hookups. Being nature lovers, we like to boondock. Any other recommendations are appreciated. We tow a 30' Flying Cloud.

Thanks.

Highly recommend getting reservations where possible, especially for Jasper. The parks fill up quickly there and many of the non-reservable sites will be too small for your trailer.

For Banff or Waterton you can usually get a spot if you arrive early (by 1 pm) depending on the campground.

Provincial parks away from major cities should be okay as long as you don't hit a long weekend.

It is probably best to reserve where possible to avoid disappointment. But where you can't reserve (ie. Waterton or campgrounds on the Icefields Parkway) get there early, drop the trailer and then do your exploring.

We were in that area early September, and I would make reservations for any and all weekends that you are going to be there. Friday afternoons, people began arriving at the Provincial Parks, and things fill up quickly. Happy exploring..you will love it.
