Trip Planning App/Website

We're planning some trips, and we'd like to pin down some places we'd like to go. My in-laws have a subscription to a website, which is nice, but I was thinking an app with offline capabilities would be great for when we do not have cell service available. I'm looking for something more than google maps.
Thank you, in advance!

I use Microsoft Streets and Trips on my PC but it is obsolete and may not be available anymore. I was unable to find anything else offline except Garmin but because I have a Garmin the map database is replicated on my PC.

We use the Camp & RV app (by Allstays) on the iPad. Just this morning I noticed that they now have a few reviews for Walmarts that you can camp in with permission. ( the LIST has always been a part of the app, but the reviews by campers are just what we needed) Every few days a new feature. When we noticed the state park in the main head just added a dump site, we used update feature, the developer had the change online in a few days. Nice to have up-to-date information. Basic mapping and campsite information is resident on your device, other great features available if you have Coverage

We use GoodSams trip planner. Good first step when doing multiple destinations and miles.

Does it show other campgrounds besides GoodSams?

Our iPad has the GPS in it and the cellular coverage. But even when there is no coverage all of the information about the various campsites is resident on your device. One feature we like...when you have chosen your campground from the information you can touch a button and it'll take you to a mapping program which will map your route.if you have Coverage one click will take you to a collection of images another quick I'll take you to a campground reviews. Off-line think about it as the equivalent of the great big Woodall's book but with print you can read and up-to-date information.

Painter fam,
There are lots of folks on this forum more tech savvy than we are. This blog post is you're too old now but this is what we learned early in our iPad navigating experience...

The goodsams trip planner is only online :-(. However it does show All campgrounds, attractions, events, etc. We plan ahead and then email the trip to ourselves from the goodsams website.

Have the Rand McNally RV GPS available from Camp World. You can input your entire route or multiple trips. Has CG's built in and is designed for RV'ers. Input all of your RV data in it and it knows where not to take you based on size, weight, dirt roads, etc.

Reviews of RV Parks and Campgrounds - RV Park Reviews is a sister site to AIR Forums. It's getting a make over and the new site is going to launch in the next month. Previously only campgrounds that had reviews were allowed but we plan to expand our database to be more comprehensive and our apps will be amazing (with campgrounds available offline too). To access reviews you will probably have to be offline or since there are so many it would make the app site too cumbersome.

That is good news. I always like that site but it got a bit frustrating to use.

I just checked in and see one big issue has been fixed: Losing zoom level on the map after returning from a campground review. Nice.

I hope it stays simple and is super easy to leave reviews.

I just bought a copy of Streets & Trips 2013 on Tuesday, it (DVD) arrived today. I purchased directly from Microsoft for $39.95 + tax, shipping was free. You can download a free 14 day trial version to see if you like it.

I have used Streets & Trips for many years, since about 1997. It has its problems and is being discontinued, but it is a great tool when you don't have any online access. I just spent 2 weeks without any Internet and the Streets & Trips tool was very handy. I don't think you can beat it for $40. It can plan trips of multiple stops, it can search / display points of interest (hotels, gas stations, landmarks, etc.) It calculates time of trip, gas costs and can do other things.

Note: This 2013 version will not run on Windows 8, only 7, perhaps XP. It will not read saved trips prior to S&T 2007 version.

I suggest you try the 14 day trial to see if it will fit your needs.
