Question Trip Planning and Logistics

Hi all, this is my first post and I'm happy to be here! I've recently fallen down the rabbit hole and become interested in leaving behind a traditional corporate life to travel the country and invest more time in myself.

My question is with regards to the planning and logistics required to make this kind of lifestyle work. In today's interconnected world, I would imagine there are a variety of tools and software available to help set would-be travelers like myself up for success.

I've already done a good amount of research on what life on the road is like and what types of changes/challenges to expect. I'm more interested in the tools needed to actually set a plan in motion. For example:
  • Initial cost planning/financing calculator
  • Campground info/ratings/reviews
  • Boondocking site info/ratings/reviews
  • Trip planning with expense calculation
  • Connecting with other RVers for tips/tricks
  • Sharing experience with friends/family

So far I've found some good resources that check a couple of those boxes. What am I missing, and what do you think are the strengths and weaknesses of each tool? What do you wish existed that doesn't yet? There seems to be a lot of good information on blogs and forums like this, but no easy/fast way to roll it into an actionable plan.

Looking forward to your responses!

So do these questions mean you've never traveled or "camped" in an RV?

If you enter “trip planning” into the blue search box at the top of your page, you will find quite a lot of information already here which may be helpful to you.

I, personally, like the AllStays app.

Good luck,

Maggie

Sounds like you have the start of a very good plan coming together. You are correct some of this information is not easy to find. It just takes a lot of research and reading and one link leading to the next and so forth.

Here are some things that I can think of for reading.

AM Solar Authorized installer Lew Farber

Technomadia Chris Dunphy and Cherie Ve Ard (don't let the fact that they're on a boat right now fool you they also travel in the bus and started in a teardrop)

The More We Explore full-time Airstream couple Steve and Tess

Tin Can Plan
Gone with the Wynns
Asmalllife
Vanlife
Vanual
Stealthvan

YouTube has quite a community of full time RVers that also earn their living on the road. If you anticipate working remotely, then I suggest you search through Technomedia's channel to see what equipment they recommend. They seem to be the guru's of staying online. There are also quite a few others who full time and are actually fun to watch! One can learn about great places to go, ways to save money, etc. Depending on your age and if you are traveling with family you can find something that will appeal to you!

We like the following YouTube Channels on Rv'ing:
Keep Your Daydream
Long Long Honeymoon
Fate Unbound
there are many more, but I am sure you can find what interests you!

Have fun!
