Trip of a lifetime

Over 10,000 miles and 13 State. Started on Apil 28th at the Thousand Trails at Medina Lake near San Antonio. Overnighted on Wal-Mart parking lot in Big Springs, TX and another overnight at the city pakr in Dumas, TX.

5 nights at Canyon City, CO (Royal Gorge).
5 nights at Cheyenne, WY. Did side trips to Sheridon..
14 days at Rapid City, SD at the Hart Ranch RV. Did Mt. Rushmore day and night, Cracy Horse, Custer State Park, The Bad Lands, and everyone has to stop at Wall, SD and the Wall Drug store.

5 nights a Gearrowen, MT where we stayed at the 7th Calvery RV. We visited the Little Big Horn Battlefield twice. Did side trips to Hardin for lunch. Side trip to the Little Big Horn mts and Sheriton. Large bowl of home made soup for $1.75. Also, the trading post across from the battlefield entrance has excellent food.
5 days at Cody, WY. It takes at least 2 days to go through the Buffalo Bill museum.

7 nights at Yellowstone in the Fishing Bride RV Park. There is so much to see and do inside the park that I could write several paragraphs. Went through the Great Teetons on our way to Jackson Hole.

7 nights at the Star Valley RV in Star Valley, WY. From Star Valley we took the route to Soda Springs and lunch at a very historic hotel.

An overnight on Flying J in Salt Lake City, Lots of idling trucks.

4 nights at Bryce Canyon. Did a side trip to Zion NP.

5 nights at the Grand Canyon. Stayed inside the park.

3 nights at the Route 66 RV in Sun Valley, AZ. Did side trips to Meteor Crater, and the Petrified Forrest.

Over night at the Hacienda RV in Las Cruces, NM.

5 nights at the Davis Mts State Park near Ft. Davis, TX. From here we drove to our home near San Antonio.

We started the trip in our 77 Argosy. While on the road I got the urge for a later model Airstream. Purchased an 03 Safari 25 footer while we were 4 weeks out on our trip. The new/old trailer had to wait because it was located at Lazy Days RV in Tampa, FL.

Stayed home for 3 days taking care of necesitie before leave for Tampa to pick up the Safari. Stayed 2 nights at Lazy Days while all squaks were taken care of. Took 3 additions weeks working our way back to Texas and enjoying our new/old Airstream. We covered 13 State, and over 10,000, of that, 8500 miles was in our Argosy.

Oh, we did have our House Princes, Oreo the cat, with us and she is an excellent traveler.

We had snow on several days including 6 inches on departur from Canyon City, CO. This was our 1st long trip in our RV and we are hooked. Next years trip is already in the planning stage. I am fully retire but my wife is still working full time with a 3 month leave each year.

On our way back from Florida we stayed to nights at the Coshatta Casino RV in Kinder, LA. Excellent RV park.

That's quite a trip! We have been to some of those places, wondrous sights aren't they? Congratulations on your new 25' Airstream. How big was your Argosy?

We have an Oreo and he's one of our dogs.

WOW! Now that's what I call a great trip. What made it even better is that you bought a new Airstream. Pretty cool. What did you do with the old one? Trade it in?

The Argosy is 26 feet. While in the Montana area I started looking this forum for a newer Airstream. There were no newer Airstreams for sale in Texas with the size and price range we were looking at. I'll to figure out how to post photo's.

Yellowstone and the Fishing Bridge RV Park. This park was full every night we were there. They do limit the size of the RV but most Airstreams should have nothave a problem.

Wow! gaylejoe, I didn't know that there was a St. Hedwig near my hometown. I'm quite familiar with Converse. I have roots at the old Nix hospital on the river, Jefferson H.S., Alamo Heights, Kelly & Randolph AFB's ... the hill country and so much more.

Better yet is the report of your adventures. Susie & I are planning a trip to Zion & Bryce next spring. I'll certainly bookmark this thread!

Awesome! Great time to be on the road and to get a new AS. I know you guys enjoyed your trip west this summer as much as we did. It went by all too fast for us. Please post pictures, can't wait to see your highlights!

Regarding Fishing Bridge Campground in Yellowstone ... the best part is that you are already in Yellowstone and at least 20 miles closer to most sites than staying outside of the park. Depending on the time of year you might awaken to the call of elk, or the thunder (or plop) of buffalo as a herd moves down the access road. Do not expect a great campsite, kind of a long parking lot with hundreds of trailers in a clearing surrounded by many trees. There is enough room for your Airstream and awning, but not much more. You could find yourself in the shade of an Intruder SOB, however. Full hookups, laundry and pay showers and more than adequate. But remember, the beauty of Yellowstone is away from the campground!

We are really sold on the idea of being inside Yellowstone, and close to the animals.
Tightness of campsites does not bug me, as you say, the day will be 'offsite'
We are looking at a May visit, hope to see young ones.
Will never match the adventure of gaylejoe.

The Fishing Bridge RV was not near as tight as the A & B RV in Cheyenne, WY. A & B was packed every night. The trailer parked on our street side had a slide out that was 3 inches from our trailer. There was barely enough room to park the tow vehicle in front of our trailer.

On this trip we visited 13 States. Moved the trailer 20 times. We drove 11,600 miles, burned 713 gallons of diesel, and averaged 16.3 mpg for the entire trip. The highest fuel price paid was at the South entrance to the Grand Canyon were all grades was $3.69 per gallon.

This includes our trip from the San Antonio area to Tampa, FL where we took delivery of our new/old Airstream.

We enjoyed this trip very much and are already making plans for another 3 month trip next year. This was the 2nd time that either of us has been away from our home for more than 3 weeks at one time.

Klattu, I did not consider the Fishing Bridge to be tight on spacing.
Mellow mike, we are currently attempting to sell our Argosy.
CanoeStream, St. Hedwig is east of San Antonio near IH-10 East and FM 1518. We are located SE of Randolpy AFB. We moved out here to be near our plane which is hangered at Zuehl which is about 4 miles from our house. Zuehl was an secondary landing strip for Randolph during WWII. It was one of the filming location for Robert Redford's "The Great Waldo Pepper."
