Travelling from Fl to NM in Dec..

We are tentatively planning a trip from FL to Albuquerque, dropping our "stream at a dealer to store for a month and head to Colorado to reek havoc on our kids lives for the holidays. Since we haven't travelled this route (southern thru Texas) are there concerns this time of year in any of these areas, primarily snow/ice? Has anyone stored their AS at a dealer before and if so, is there any advice?

Slight chance of snow/ice in the high country of West Texas and New Mexico, depending on the route you the weather forecast.

I-10 should be clear this time of year, last time I went across I was out running a hurricane, which was coming up thru the Gulf.Main problem is where 10 is a concrete road with all those expansion joints, just bumpty, bumpty, bumpty. Dave

enjoy the ride, but watchout in La. They like foreign money (speed traps) There will be about a 10 mile stretch of bridge over a bayou, they really like to get you here, I think the speed is 50 mph for towing. Also enjoy the bridge over the IC yu are almost in the clouds. I drove it Last week of April and there was also alot of stop and go. I drove from I 55 west to Beaumont. Someone may have something more recient.

Have made the trip from Fl to Az a number of times and you should concider taking I-20 rather than I-10. I-10 very hilly and not a great deal of service stops. A long haul trucker turned us onto taking I-20 and it provided a much better ride.

I agree, I-20 is best route to Ft Worth. US 287 to Amarillo. I-40 to Albuquerque. Better roads all the way, less construction on interstates. Less "city" congested interstate miles. Only draw back, watch weather closely. December to March major fronts can blow through from Amarillo to Ft Worth with lots of ice. Can clear out in a couple of days and be great weather quickly. Then, just as quickly then turn cold and icy again!

Holiday Travel Trailers in ABQ?

I never stored our Airstream at a dealer, except when it was in for repairs and upgrades--all at Holiday. Andrew and Lucas are very nice to deal with, very helpful, did first rate work.

As for travel in NM, if you're coming in I-40, Clines Corners (about 50 mile E of ABQ) will have bad weather if any place will. Of course, with the dry winter we're having, you may have clear sailing.

Thanks everyone for your quick replies! We are looking at the I-20 route, I think the key is to watch the weather as closely as possible if we do this. Have drven thru La many times and didn't notice any speed traps, but then again, was probably going the speed limit (if I was driving).
Thanks again travels
