Up

We did a circle tour.
Up Wisconsin
then west to duluth
Up through Canada
then down through Michigan
Home to chicago
Lots to see
beaches, lighthouse, dozens of waterfalls.
3 must see
Painted rocks national lakeshore UP
Apostle Islands national lakeshore. UP
Sleeping bear dunes national lakeshore not on the peninsula
but definitely worth the trip. BEAUTIFUL.

If you want to treat yourselves, find a campground near Mackinac City and deposit your rig there. Take your TV to Shepler's Ferry, then head over to the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island for a night or two. Don't forget to make a reservation! Expensive, I know, but my wife and I did it in June and boy was that a good time. One of the beautiful classic hotels in America along the lines of the Greenbriar.
And enjoy Urban Air! Made it last year, it was excellent from top to bottom! Can't make it this year, but can't wait to go to another one!
Have fun and enjoy the UP!

Fort Wilkins State Park

The town(s) of Houghton/Hancock, and Calumet have some incredible late 1800's enormous buildings built during the mining boom.

A side trip to the Jam Pot for baked goods made by Monks is not to be missed.

We just returned from a week up there and the bugs were virtually nowhere to be found which has been our experience this time of year into fall.

We make every attempt to make a yearly trip up that way. You wouldn't regret the little bit of extra driving.
I completely concur. One of our favorite spots is Ft. Wilkins State park on Lake Fanny Hooe and across the street from Lake Superior!
During the summer they have costumed reenactors at the Fort. A late afternoon boat ride to the light house is also beautiful. I love eating at the nearby lodge as well. Click image for larger version
