Traveling I80 in Indiana/Ohio

We will be repositioning our Overlander from Wisconsin to NH. Looking to spend a day doing the tourist thing in northern Ohio or northwestern Indiana. Does anyone have a favorite town/city in this area that is worth a visit? And related place to stay.

Where in Wisconsin?

Stop at the airstream factory for a tour.

You might try Shipshewanna, IN ; an Amish community with a huge flea market. Just a few miles South of I-80 .

Amish area?

Is there a general Amish area with multiple places to visit? The Lancaster Amish area was quite nice?

Pokagon State Park, near Angola IN, just a few miles from Ohio, in the upper right corner. Shipshewana is not far, Michigan is not far. Great park, nice beach.

The city of St Joseph and Silver Beach sit right on Lake Michigan are just a few miles into Michigan. Great food at Shu's which overlooks the lake. Great pizza at Silver Beach Pizza in the Amtrak station. Nice camping in the Indiana Dunes state park. Although a bit further out of your way, I also enjoyed camping at Holland State Park. There is a nice walk from the campground down to a lighthouse near the the beach.

You could always make a stop at the RV/MH Hall of Fame in Elkhart, IN on you way through.http://www.rvmhhalloffame.org/ It's really interesting! It's near Shipshewanna if you decide to go there (lots of shopping there). I like the Indiana Dunes, and go there every year. But I usually go to Shipshewanna too! :-)

Agreed.

There is parking for RV's in town. However, you might find the traffic on the weekends a bit too much to bear if you have your trailer in tow when visiting the town.

Perrysburg, OH

Don't miss Perrysburg. Great little town on the Maumee River. If you go, be sure to visit Swig, which has sidewalk seating and features artisanal beer and their own sausages, including a gyro "hot dog" to die for!

I have made that trip numerous times and I would suggest a pillow for passengers and a case of energy drink for the driver. In Indiana the most exciting thing to see is the electronic fence to control deer test zone. Ohio boasts some mighty nice toll booths. My suggestion is to go North through the UP into Canada at Sioux Ste Marie and across our wonderful neighbor to the north. The strangest stop you can make will be at Sudbury to see the world's biggest nickel. Aside from that you will find good camping, great scenery, friendly people and no tollways. If you enjoy driving through Chicago take left after that bit of fun and head towards Detroit and again cross into Canada.

Can't remember where we stayed while in Ohio but while you're there the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a must see. You won't be disappointed.
