Traveling from Dallas, TX to Vermont

Leaving App. 09-21-2018, traveling through N/E Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky or Missouri into western Indiana.

No particular itinerary planned. Looking for scenery. Two lane roads nor mountains do not deter me as we will be pulling a 28 ft AS with a 1 Ton GMC, dually.

We will leave Odon, Indiana, traveling on to and through Vermont.

I love the Northeast fall colors (leaf peepers). Any suggestions of interesting areas, the drives, camping, state or national parks, etc. will be most helpful.

My 86 year old husband has rapidly advancing Macular Degeneration. He still enjoys scenery and camping. This may be his last long trip and I want to make the most of it for him. Your input is a treasure.

Thank you. Betty Farmer

The trip you plan is a great one. We made a similar trip when we first purchased our trailer. Brother and his wife followed us East. Our trips were as different as the people we are. One of the memorable views we experienced was a big red farm wagon being pulled by a green John Deer across a newly mowed field with the forest and mountains in the background. My brother experienced the history and flavor of several small National Parks including the Erie Canal Locks. Whatever you want you will find and enjoy.

Our trip included the AS factory in Jackson Center, Goat Island at Niagara Falls, the Adirondack Mountains, and a drive into Vermont from the North through the Lake Champlain area. Vermont has covered bridges and a wonderful small town culture to experience and enjoy at that time of year.

The Leaf turn is forecast on various websites. It takes place at different times each year, based on the weather cycle in play. So, if at all possible, be flexible with your time. It may take an extra couple of weeks to find an area with the turn in process.

Our belief was that we were just too early. However, we really enjoyed the trip and will do it again.

The National Quilt Museum is in Paducah Kentucky. The Studebaker National Museum is in South Bend IN. ASs are kind of like the covered wagons that got the pioneers West. You will pass through the Mississippi River Delta on your way East. Check out info in the WBCCI description of their Caravan through that area. If you are not members, Google their website. There are lots of interest specific attractions. There are also family friendly campgrounds that provide an interesting Fall camping experience.

Good luck with your trip. Pat
