Trailing of the Sheep

Has anyone ever gone to this festival in their Airstream? If so, we are interested in going next year and wanted to make our reservations early. Any suggestions?

We have a 2016 Airstream Classic (30') and a yellow lab.

Suggestions?

Gary

Never even heard of the "Trailing of the Sheep" festival. Details on where/when/what, please?

Even though we only live a bit over an hour away we have not gone up for the festival. But we do spend a decent amount of time in that area and passing through on the way to other spots.

There are some good places to camp and you will be just fine with a 30' in the area with a number of options to camp and set up for the week. Looks like the 2018 dates are October 10-14. Be aware that there is a good chance low temps will be around freezing. But daytime times will most likely be in the 60's or low 70's. For camping, there are some dispersed areas along Trail Creek Rd. a few miles out of town. And there are some spots to the south end of the valley as well that are good choices within a short drive. There are some natural hot springs, lots of hiking, biking paths, and world-class fly fishing all around the valley. A day trip up to Stanley and the Sawtooth range is worth hitting if you like incredible scenery. And there are lots of great places to eat.

The Wood River Valley is one of my favorite places in all of Idaho. It would be where I live if it were 80 years ago before it became touristy.

Happy to help with any questions at all on the area and other things to do.

The Trailing of the Sheep is followed a week or so later by the Sun Valley Jazz Festival which is a WBCCI special event rally.

I found this via Campendium. Is this the Wood River campground you referenced? https://www.campendium.com/wood-river

It is amazing to me that I can look at that website and still not glean where this Trailing of the Sheep event is located or the history of it.
Just as it is amazing that so many business websites don't have their hours of operation.
The website does a good job of telling when the event is, but for the life of me I can't see the location.

The Maps page has that info for 2017:

http://www.trailingofthesheep.org/maps/

Seems like this is an annual event always in the same location IMO. Guessing the 2018 detailed info will not be posted until later next year.

The About tab has a drop down History link:

http://www.trailingofthesheep.org/history/

Fairly easy to find . . .

The top right of the page header does say Idaho -- Sun Valley, Ketchum, Hailey

The wood River CG is a pretty small and tight one...campendium lists max size at 22' but there are other spots in the area that would work.

Trail Creek Rd. is one option, https://www.campendium.com/trail-creek-road
HaySpur is one spot to the south that would also fit your rig. https://www.campendium.com/hayspur-fish-hatchery

This sounds like a fun event.

For people who would enjoy this sort of thing, the 2018 National Sheepdog trials will be held in California in Sept.

A lot of contestants and spectators show up in RVs, so the community gets ready for them in advance.
