trailer height.

We are new to airstream (hell we don't even ownone yet!) I was wondering how high they are. 10 feet?? 12. We have only inspected one close up. And I can't seem to find info on that. We are looking at a 1965 this weekend.

Thanks

Airstream trailers tend to be rather low as compared to other RVs. Airstream lists the overall height for my 30' Excella at 9'7".

Depend on whether AC

The air conditioner adds at least another foot. If you leave your antenna up, you are definitely in trouble.

My new A/C is about 16", so I allow 11'. Guess we ought to measure it--we've got data for every other measurement!

My '76 is just shy of 10' with the air conditioner , I think the 9'-7" is the right number .

Mine will go thru a 10' high barn door with plenty of room to spare, I suspect it is because my axles are on the way out But IIRC 10' is a good working number. IMHO it is one of the attractions of an Airstream, lower profile means easier towing and better mileage.

Welcome to the forum dkutz, what model '65 are you looking at?
The owners manual for my '65 Globetrotter says the overall height is 106" or 8'10" and it came with the A/C unit, looks more like 9 1/2' to me though.

I vaughly recall ours measures 115-1/2 inches to the top of the A/C. It's sorta fuzzy..... but seems to work, and I know it's under 10 foot!
I know when I call for ferry reservations I list truck, trailer combo length as 53 foot, by 8 foot by 9' 7-1/2" I DO know a nine foot door does not work! Ask me how.... no harm, no foul, but sure surprised them I actually knew what I was talking about!

I've had one so called 10' door be just a couple inches shy of clearing the AC on my Argosy -- I think it was an issue of how the owner had built up the floor. I've managed to get through every other honest 10' door I've seen...

Nine feet, seven and a half inches (9' - 7 1/2") dead nut. Less when fully loaded.

Talking Low Center of Gravity

The low center of gravity is good for all but one thing.... the stinky slinky hose. You have to be careful to find a campsight where you won't be asking crap to run uphill! I solved that by switching to a "Sewer Solution" which actually can run level or even slightly uphill without a mascerator pump. (It's a 1 inch diameter hose, and it's a really thick vinyl hose which doesn't have ridges inside so leavings don't hang around. One can actually dump, or break camp without gloves... though I still use them from general principle.

I love my Airstream. I buy it q new toy about once a month. This month it's a "Hitch Helper" from Hensley. Very inexpensive and useful.
