Thank you all for your words of wisdom! We made it to Ft. Wilderness safe and sound. (We chose the 95 south route.) Pulled out of Newport @ 9:15 Thursday morning. Excellent weather and zero traffic until we were just south of DC. Then Boom! Eight lanes of south-bound traffic just parked. So we pulled off at a Cracker Barrel and called it a night.

Left CB @ 8:30. Stopped in Dillon, SC @ Bass Lake Campground. Will save my commentary on that for another night. (Bleh!)

Then we went straight to Ft. Wilderness. If not for the bogus "construction" in South Carolina, we would have arrived four hours earlier! (Has anyone else noticed that there are no new road advancements, machinery, or anything besides sings in the construction zones of SC? Interesting!) We did add an hour at a truck wash...but that was a necessary evil!

Anyhoo...we arrived on Saturday night! All set up and life is good! In the 80s yesterday & today. Excellent!

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas

Attached a few pics of truck wash & set up!
Oh! And we rented a golf cart and toured all the sites & lights. We only saw 6 other Airstreams out of approx. 700 sites!!

Have fun. Going to get cooler during Christmas but cooler is a relative term depending on where you're coming from.

Sounds great! We are arriving on the 26th for a 3 nights with our 7 month old and her grandparents. No airstream this year (in a hotel) but if all goes well that's what we will be doing next year! Any disney tips?

If you decide to take 95 on your homeward trek you can pick up an alt route from the by-pass at Richmond, Va. Pick up 301 from there. It's a good road with a few lights but it moves nicely and places to stay along the route if need be. It all comes back to 95 in Delaware to go over the bridge but it's my northbound route of choice.

Now, keep it our secret. Or else.

Love Ft Wilderness. The golf cart is a real help. We've stayed there twice, and plan on another trip this spring. Welcome to Florida!

I used to recommend this, but all of the traffic lights in La Plata and Waldorf (they keep adding them) make this route tedious. I'm not saying I-95 is a picnic either... More just that there isn't a great way to deal with DC these days (aside from trying to avoid rush hours and the like).
