Towing an Airstream

Hi can anyone help please?

I have to drag my 34ft Airstream 10000 Classic from Fortuna in Spain to Northern England.

Will I be able to do this using an automatic Jeep Cherokee 2.2 diesel?

The journey will involve mountains as well as mainly flat motorways.

Thanks for any help anyone can offer

Tony

The English Channel May be a Challenge...

... but seriously, what hitch will you have on your tow vehicle?

If Wazbro is Correct...

... and a weight-distribution hitch is not allowed, you cannot tow it with your Cherokee.
The tongue weight may exceed the capacity of your hitch even with a weight-distribution hitch. So, check the rating stamped into your receiver.

Towing capacity for a Jeep Cherokee 2.2 is max 1587 kgs - 3500 lbs according to a seach in ask.com. Any idea what a 34 weighs in at?

No way a 1995 34' can be towed by the Jeep. There were 2 34's made that year, the 34 and the 34FK. Dry wt. of the 34' is 7,100 lbs.; hitch wt., 800; GVWR, 8,300. The 34FK is 7,700; 825; 9,500.

OP: Looks like you are going to have to make some other arrangements. I sold my Jeep 2.3 gas because it could only handle 2000 lbs. Not enough to even tow safely my little Bambi II.

Hi, You really should not tow a triple of that weight with your cherokee,
Have you put a post on UKAirstreamers ? someone might have an idea or be able to suggest somebody.

Good luck

Tim

I had a 1989 Jeep Cherokee Pioneer that was great for towing a 1500 pound boat with 150 lbs of tongue weight. The rear leaf springs are very soft and I think you will find that once you try to hook up, the tires will push themselves up through the wheel wells into the cargo area. This is one adventure that is best witnessed from a very safe distance, say Port Hardy. Don't do it.

towing my Airstream

Hi many thanks for all your replies and help about towing my Airstream. The firm that delivered it towed it down behind a Transit without wiring up the brakes, I now understand why his van was well shagged when he got it there. Members still enjoy telling me about it and I love the stories as it arrived on site as it's the only one there and so many people talk about it.

Many thanks for all your help and time

Tony
