Towing along FL. A1A St Aug. to Daytona

Planning to go down to Daytona next week and wanted to know how difficult it is to tow down scenic Route A1A from St. Augustine to Daytona. Narrow? Tight turning? you know, the usual stuff.....

It is a pretty nice drive should be no problems at all. It is pretty much a straight shot all the way.

The drive from St. Augustine to Daytona Beach is a pretty one. However, depending on the day and time it can get conjested and not be much fun. It is just two lanes and if you get people wanting to just get where their going (speed limit is 45MPH) they will push you which doesn't allow for taking in the scenic pleasures. Other than that, there are no difficult curves etc. on that route.

Better have good brakes.

Lots of stop lights in the populated sections. No real twisties or tight spots.

Thanks. RCaldwell, perhaps you can also tell me whether it's advisable to follow 95 thru Jacksonville or swing west around 295 to avoid that hard turn near the Rte 10 interchange. Any other issues I should know of?
Also, approaching D.B. on 95 is the preferred entry from exit 273 to Rt 1 or Exit 261 to92 to Ocean Center. I'm towing a 24' enclosed car carrier and am staying at the Adams Mark.

If your trip plans takes you through Jacksonville at rush hour (6:30 - 8:30 AM, 3:30 - 6:00 PM) I would suggest using 295. If you have a CB, check as you approach Jacksonville. The Truckers are always asking each other which way is less conjested. Exit 261 is the Speedway exit and again at certain times can get clogged up. If you have never been by the speedway you may want to take this exit. You will go right by Daytona Speedway. When you get to the Beach side, you will have to go back up (north) A1A to get to the Adams Mark. Exit 273 is less conjested and you won't have to back track. You will go south until you reach the Hotel. FYI, at Exit 305 is a fairly new and well keep Flying J which has RV parking, fuel island etc. If you need any further information about Daytona or if by chance you have breakdowns, PM me with you dates and I will provide my cell phone just in case you need any assistance.

Thanks Bob. Re: Jacksonville I had heard that there is a pretty sharp turn on 95 thru Jacksonville which could be problematic for larger vehicles.
I'm probably heading into Daytona Wed. morning after rush hour and will probably drive by the Speedway as I will be spending a lot of time there over later in the week for a classic Porsche event. Looking forward to driving my '58 around the track a few times. Thanks for the help. Much obliged.

Hi Teutonik,

That turn you mentioned is a PIA with any vehicle. It is just before the bridge over the St. John River and comes up rather suddenly. Use 295 for a rather less painful way through JAX.
