10 Acres of Courtesy Parking

Looks like a sweet setup. 10 acres would provide some nice courtesy parking for your Airstream family (wink wink).

Last summer, we arrived on Orcas Island as you were leaving. We originally planned to visit several of the San Juan Islands but we loved Orcas so much we just stayed there for the rest of our vacation.

True, the cost of multiple ferry boats trips needs to considered but what a fun way to see all of the San Juan Islands in your Airstream.

Happy that you were able to make your dream come true.

Cheers

Island hopping is easy enough that one can do day trips from one stable location. Visiting San Juan Island doesn't even require a car. For places outside of Friday Harbor there is a shuttle bus during the tourist season.

Schlepping a trailer from place to place gets expensive very fast.

it is exciting

but...we are being kind to the PO ...we closed thursday...and giving him time...and he is moving out on the 10th...so we just have to salivate....with anticipation until then....

then the daunting task of getting our stuff from a POD that is in Everett...

Orcas Island freight lines...is going to be our hero...

so we might have stuff late in the month...but we still have to buy some furniture as we sold or gave away to goodwill..most of our former furniture..

so sleeping under the stars or on the floor is the lot...but such a beautiful place...

then soon will have to catch the ferry to friday harbor and get officialized

washington state drivers licenses...and register the truck:

other than that i surely do not want to leave orcas and my 10 acres for a long time.....

there is parking for an rv...but not a trailer...or not a trailer bigger than a small bambi....

there are two hairpin S curves on the hill to my house....

i am not going to pull my 28 footer up it....no need to get it stuck...blocking a one lane road ...at the very beginning at least....will need further evaluation....

but an interstate would have no problems.....

..

An Interstate could make it......hmmm.

If I ever feel like driving that far ..... I'll give you a holler.

In the meantime, post lots of pictures.

and so the adventure.....

gains speed.....

events totally in the big plan are rolling out like a golf ball on a smooth green

so i hope i can say about it here...i put the trailer...the dream machine...the aluminum chariot..... up for sale on the classified and a big sign on the back of her...at the barn in eastsound.....some local tire kicking and very much interest on the forum...which surprised us....

We , as most other here ,are struck...with the beauty...the solace...the very immediate , and forceful presence...of nature....the beauty that is in control of Orcas and its grate full residents

WE ARE ...WE DON'T WANT TO GET ON A FERRY...DON'T WANT TO LEAVE.::

so we moved into our slice of paradise last sunday....

no furniture,,,so sleeping on the floor....anywhere so long as it is here.....

such beauty we stumbled into...all in the plan that is guiding me....

it had been on the market two years...it is odd shaped...smallish...one bedroom...but has a very neat loft...

so it would not suit a lot of folks...so it just sat here and the price lowered

waiting on us.......it was grandkids that got us the place. po was a retired TWA pilot...retired in 1998 @ 60... lived here 17 years..wanted to die here...showed me the place on the place where he wanted to spend eternity. here at this house.

I Told him...I would take his place...with a smile on my face

grandma...had to be with the grandkids in phoenix.....

i would let her go by herself...I AM NOT LEAVING THIS PLACE EXCEPT FOR THE INEVITABLE.....

one more reason not to have kids...they have kids...that grandma has to be with...

and so it goes

Congratulations, you guys.

I can just see you.....camping in, talking and dreaming of what will go where, what you need, what you have, all that will make it just perfect for you.

Certainly sounds as if it was meant to be.

If I ever make that trip to fill Nevada in on our map, I will hop on over to see you before I head back. Have some camping friends in Puyallup, WA, too.

Have fun!

You're sweet.

I may get there....and I'll also leave.

I have kids, grands and a homestead in the Midwest.....none of which I would give up.

signing off---paradise gained

end of the airstream trail for us..paradise found…all from dragging a silver twinkie up and down the highways and byways…

in the beginning…circa 2008…burned out..beaten down from forty years running a plumbing supply business,,me and the spouse were …she was in the business as well,,,well i bought the airstream in secret..sort of…and i was going to run away from home

and did for two weeks,,,then she decided…after much persuasion,,,i talked her into selling the brand new house we had just bought…throwing all to the wind and start the search for El dorado…the shining place on the hill…somewhere away from the heat, the stifling heat and the crush of population in Texas…

ah, the road…freedom…no house…no nuthin…and it was great…the beauty to be found is just unbelievable …the folks…especially the 4CU crowd; the folks that would let you courtesy park…the friends made on this forum…the information gained from this forum….all invaluable…

so life weaves in and out…and the elusive dream becomes more elusive…

crash and burn…rise out of the ashes….the dream reappears and become clear…….. …point the dam thing northwest as far as it will go…get on a ferry and head for paradise…

a smallish, 56 sq mile island in an archipelago in the straits of juan de fuca…get out of here…

so…paradise climate in the rain shadow of the olympics, in the purview of the beautiful cascades…where nature is left alone to do its magic,,,and the humans, like the indians before us are trying to live in the shadow of the great magic of mother nature…..and be of calm spirit and awe at the beauty,,,

so we decided …that paradise is not to be left…for a good long time…and now our airstream dream machine….belongs to a veterinarian…from Alaska…

His son lives in Montana…and by chance was coming to Orcas just this Friday…and he took the ole gal with him…to Montana…where the Doc will make forays in his retirement….

so now we are going to sell the trusty tow vehicle,,,get an ALL 4 Mini Cooper….

and maybe…a boat…who knows…

thanks for the memories….come see us if you can

Thanks for taking us along on your travels, Kingfisher.

The Airstream, it seems, was only a part of your journey. But also you were only a part of its journey. It has gone on to make more stories of more adventures with another family...and then another...and then another. Hooray for dreams that land on solid ground and for trailers that last and last and last.

Let me know if you want to meet for lunch someday. I'm up here again, pretty much full-time now (when I'm not traveling about).

Kingfisher and Lady kingfisher,

I found your journal today and began reading....from beginning to end. Your adventures from Texas to your paradise has been very interesting. Your style of writing kept me wanting to read more! And like all good fairy tales, had a proper happy ever after ending. Congratulations to you both. It appears that you did, in fact, find your paradise!

I have not been to the PNW, have plans to meet up with Maggie in Wyoming and then on to Fort Stevens state park at Astoria, Oregon. This will be a special trip for me and hopefully, I'll get to enjoy exploring some of the beauty of that region. I so look forward to it.

Your home looks very nice, and no doubt, you have it well furnished and will continue to love it. Lucky you! Enjoy!
