Kingfisher...

If you're on Orcas Island between May 15 and July 1 come visit us. My wife and I will be camped on the top of Mt. Constitution.

Cheers,
John

I spent 4 months in Anacortes, November through March. Being from the midwest, the winter months were a breeze. Yes to rain and a light snow, once. It is a beautiful area. Check the healthcare capabilities on the Island you choose, especially emergencies. Also, the other consideration is that you will spend your life scheduling around a ferry. All of life is a compromise, but ensuring emergency care should be a consideration to think about. I just returned for a short visit in August. The life in these area is a culture to itself. They have mini tug boats there that are the Airstream of boating. Full timing in the winter might be a consideration. There were weeks in the 20's and below.. But beats 100 inches of snow, sleet, slush and salt.

Kingfisher, another word of caution about the Sequim area... My wife and I were about to 'pull the trigger' and move there. We made one last visit (first part of August 2014)to decide. What we discovered was there were no doctors were taking new patients. OR if they were taking new patients, you had to 'join' their practice at the tune of $60/person/month regardless of whether or not you went to see the doctor. Doctors are in VERY high demand in the area. So make sure you can get a doctor and make sure s/he is not retiring soon (this was something else we heard when talking to the various doctor's offices.

We were totally crestfallen as we had been there 6 times in the past 4 years and were ready to move. Now... we are going to be full time RV'ing. Could be worse.

The Orcas Island Adventure

Nimbus is right, the further out you go on the Penisula the more challenges you'll face in health care. Unless you're connected to the mainland (i.e. Anacortes) the more you live around ferry schedules. That's unless you ride a motorcycle (or bicycle) so you can enjoy first on-first off consideration. I previously plugged the Hood Canal/Port Ludlow area and would add that easy access to emergency facilities across the bridge and two different ferry options (Kingston-Edmonds or Bainbridge-downtown Seattle) make that area attractive, plus home prices are still some what depressed there (no where near 2006 levels).

And another plug for RV'ing at Salt Creek. Be sure to drive up Hurricane Ridge before the snow flies too.

all of that is moot…appreciate all the info however.

life is like a crap shot anyway…you pays your money and youse take your chances..

life is a carnival….two bits a shot

healthcare in america is going to become for all of us "HOPE YOU DONT GET SICK….because american healthcare is going to kill us ole folks…or at least turn us upside down and shake our pockets of any remain coin…..if the FED does not destroy the currency first…oh wait…too late

if we don't like it…the airstream can go somewhere else
