Absolutely on this one too. They are easy to find and get to, we walked the entire carriage loop with our dogs, it was great. There's also a path less traveled through the forest around the lake there, we took that path, dogs LOVED it.

It's been a while, but I seem to remember reading that some of the roads cannot be driven by trailers due to low overpasses -- would those roads only be interstates or also state routes, or ? How does one know for certain which roadways are safe to travel?

Thanks.

My wife has put together a travel bog and we headed up to the Kennebunkport area which is a three hour drive north from Rhode Island. We had a great time , and had been ten years since we spent time in Maine. She took some nice photos. The weather has been great in New England the last few weeks.

We hope to head back in the fall.

Nice photos of Kennebunkport and Biddeford Pool. Incidentally, Cape Porpoise -- one of my favorite places -- is part of Kennebunkport. You do a nice blog, eliset123. I didn't see a way to sign up to receive notices when you post. Is there a setting somewhere on your blog for people to "follow"?

Deb, Most all roads in Maine are standard clearance, on a rare occasion you do find low clearance bridges ect, but they are signed well in advance with work arounds readily available in most all cases. I am not sure of a source that identifies these but they should be a minimal occurance. Safe Travels Howard

Maine has some very nice lakes for kayaking.

The stars are awesome, and there are lots of shooting stars in August.

Hello fellow streamers. Bob's Clam Scack in Kittery ME has the best ever lobster stew. Not cheap but worth the money. It is located right on Rt1 and next door to the Kittery Trading Post. It is always a destination stop for me when I got up to ME.
Happy camping nm1oqrz

Our favorite "local style" Maine lobster dinner is at Chauncey's Creek waterfront picnic table style BYOB eatery in Kittery ME !!! www.chaunceycreek.com

Howard, thank you for the information on Maine's roadways -- we have not been there camping, but hope to do so.

I can testify the roads are not good. They are very rough, narrow in most cases, with lots of traffic. But, the scenery is nice, and the food good.

We're at Acadia National park now, and headed toward Nova a Scotia tomorrow.

When in Maine and going up across the border off US 1. Stop at Cobbs Cook Bay State Park. No hook ups, wonderful sites. We had one with our 30' right on the water, tides run about 27' and at high tide water was only about 15' away. Water as clear as can be and great Kayaking right from our site.

Ah Maine. I have visited there a dozen times. For sure stop in Freeport. I think there is a place to leave your TT outside of town as parking downtown is awkward. Follow US 1 rather than the boring interstates. I visit the boatbuilding capital in tiny Brooklin ME every year as I am a wooden boat builder. Acadia is busy during high summer but don't miss it. Again park the TT and drive and hike the parks. I think the low clearance bridges occur only inside the park. I recommend taking the ferry from Stonington to Isle Au Haut and hike from Duck Harbor to Western Head for a real wilderness experience. Bring your own food and water though.

Ahh Maine!

Headed there in 17 days!! I am staying at KOA Oceanside, right on the water. I enjoy all of Acadia hiking and biking. We are doing a day trip to Blue Hill (hot spots anyone?)plenty to do up there just get out early to find parking at trail heads. My site 344 has the best sunset views, so in Airstream rally fashion, happy hour starts around 4 and goes till the sun is down, and longer. Any streamers around are welcome to share the campfire, which is just off the water on the point of my site. Last year I made friends with 3 other streamer couples, what a blast!

We will be at the same campground Sept 17-24, don't know our site number. You chose Oceanfront, I wanted full hook-ups. See you there!

If visiting Blue Hill continue on down 175 "bay road" past Blue Hill falls to Brooklin. Nothing in the town but a general store. Stop at the Wooden Boat School workshops and waterfront. Continue on 175 to the haunted looking house and Center Harbor Road. The harbor is filled with gorgeous wooden boats.

The Coast of Maine

We have been enjoying Maine coastal camping: Wilcox County CG in Freeport right on the Casco Bay, Camden Hills SP CG in beautiful Camden Penobscot Bay, Acadia NP Seawall CG ( was a terrific find located on the "quiet side" of the island ), and last but not least we were very lucky to camp at the just opened Monday, Sept. 1st Acadia's newest NP CG on the Schoodc Peninsula! Check out the new campground: http://wabi.tv/2015/09/02/acadia-nat...ds-campground/

We have been fortunate to enjoy exceptional warm summer weather while camping, kayaking and hiking these gorgeous parks.

Happy Camper,
FCloud9
