Hello from a fellow Washingtonian. There are so many nice campgrounds in the area, it I s hard to pick one. Being from the West-Sound area, we like to camp on the Olympic Peninsula. One of our favorites is Point Hudson in Port Townsend (run by the Port of Port Townsend). It is close to town and has sweeping views from north of Mount Baker all the way around to the Olympic Mountains (and Mount Rainier can be seen between Indian and Marrowstone Islands). We always enjoy walking around the historic town and walk the beach to Fort Worden (a couple mile walk each way). My Avatar is a picture looking to Fort Worden from Point Hudson. Off-season, it can be quite empty which is when we like to stay there (even though it may be windy and rainy).
Enjoy!!

Bullard's Beach State Park, Bandon, OR. It's on the Coquille River with miles of trails, beach and river access. Second is Harris Beach State Park on a bluff overlooking the ocean beaches north of Brookings, OR

I really enjoy camping in the California redwoods. There are many, dozens, of campgrounds. Its a place that's about 100 miles long and maybe 10 miles wide. This is the place I like to stay. To me a campground is where the trailer sits, but the surrounding area is what makes it so special.

Interesting thread and a great idea.
We have enjoyed many campgrounds since we got our airstream. One that we have been back to more than once is the Lakeside Casino and RV park in Pahrump NA.

We find it to be very relaxing, spacious and clean. A bonus is the ability to dig out a fishing pole and actually catch fish right out our trailer door.

We are currently on our maiden trip from CA to MI, NY, VT, and then on toward ME. My vote for best camping..so far: Letchworth State Park in NY. Beautiful forested park, well maintained, great roads, electric hookup only. Water faucets, dump, modern showers and toilets available near campsites. Lots of photo and hiking opportunities along the "Grand Canyon of the East". Glen Iris Inn has great food if you want a break from camp dining. Worth a three night stay in my book.
My wifes vote: Cheerful Valley RV park in Geneva, NY. Close to the fingerlakes, large grass campsites with a river nearby. Sufficient shade trees and open areas as needed. Full services. We stayed here a week and did day trips around the fingerlakes. Lots of wineries in the area for winetasting. Lots of water activities too.

So hard to say....
One of our favourites is the little BLM campground by the San Rafael bridge in the North San Rafael Swell in central Utah. It's about the farthest north extent of red rock desert in the state, north of I-70 and between highways 6 and 10. The locals know all about it, but it has some great canyon scenery without hordes of other tourists. The easiest way to find it is via the Temple Mtn. exit (I think it's #129 0r 131) off of I-70, or via HY 10.
Also close by in the North San Rafael Swell is camping at the Wedge overlook-- the view is nicknamed the Little Grand Canyon. For a reason.
Bring all of your own water, and firewood if you use it. There are pit toilets at these sites, but that's about it. See if you can go during weekdays, shoulder season. It can get super hot in the summer.
