Summer 2013 Georgia Trip

Planning a trip to western Georgia near Columbus in late July. Found a Georgia Power Company campground called Blanton Creek. Has anyone been there? We have a 30' trailer and wondering if any problems getting into the sites. Are reservations recommended?

I have not heard of this campground and don't immediately find it here, but this is a good site for public campgrounds and gives lots of info.

I have not been to this park but located it on RV Park Reviews :: Home and it got some pretty good reviews. It is listed under Fortson, GA. I noticed it takes only cash or check, no credit cards.

Blanton creek is a great campground! I'll ask my husband to add a post with some pictures. We also like FDR state park in Pine Mountain - about 20 minutes away. No lake though, so if you're into boating, Blanton Creek would be best

Yes, Blanton Creek is great, although they have a somewhat limited season. We coordinated a rally there a few years back (End of Summer Thang). Absolutely great if you have kayaks or a canoe, right on Lake Harding, which is part of the Chattahoochee River network IIRC.

You will have to go to Hunter's Pub (3 miles down the road in Hamilton, GA) for a steak if you go to Blanton Creek (or FDR). Hunter's Pub is a place that you would probably never go into unless someone told you it was OK. They serve KILLER steaks, a seafood special that has always been unbelievable, and fried lobster tails - OMG. But if you drove by the place in the daytime you would assume the place had been abandoned.

You will want a reservation for Blanton Creek. The water sites are great with lots of shade. Since this is campground on a Georgia Power lake, you should find it full no matter the time of year. As you well know, it will be hot and humid in late July, and the lake water will feel almost like bath water.

You may also want to increase your life insurance policy. We barely survived the first night there a few years ago, and it only got better thereafter. No telling who you will meet at that pub.

Tim, I think it was the crowd you went with that you needed to be insured against.
