Stone Mountain, GA. & Six Flags

My wife and I, along with 2 of my 4 kids, spent 3 1/2 days at Stone Mountain Campground this past week. Nice place with 50 amp, 30 amp, 15 amp electrical, water and sewer in the trailer/motorhome section. We were just off the water which gave my kids a chance to feed the ducks and squirrels that visited the site. I noticed no trashcans, you just put your bagged trash next to the road and it was picked up. Apparently the wildlife didn't bother it. Showers were clean and laundry machines were at each shower house.

The Laser Light show (9:30 p.m.) projected onto the side of Stone Mountain is the main attraction and worth every minute. The skylift to the top of the mountain is really neat although the 1.3 mile walk up the mountain would have been nice if I could have talked everyone into it. A diesel train makes a trip around the base of the mtn. complete with a skit in an old town so do not miss it. Mini-golf, pedal boats, waterslide complex, Antebellum Plantation, paddlewheel riverboat and all kinds of gift/craft shops as well as eateries are available.

Six Flags

Water slides and Thunder River at Six Flags was also nice. The Free Fall ride left my heart in my throat and the Gotham rollercoaster left my knees a little wobbly. My daughter road almost every rollercoaster in the park as well as the Looping Starship. I passed on all but the one she shamed me into riding.

Thanks

Thanks for the tip. We live in Louisiana & have been through Atlanta. I have a season pass for 6 flags and Atlanta is just within driving distance (a long drive, but doable).

Stone Mtn Park is now privately managed, although still State Owned. It has been much improved these last years in the activities, and general maintenance. Having lived near it for 20 years, we have been there many times, and it is now nicer than ever. If you get a chance to visit downtown Atlanta, the Centennial Olympic Park and Underground area are worth a visit. For younger kids, the Yellow River Game Ranch, not too far from Stone Mtn is fun.
When I was in the recording biz, my bands music was played at the closing of the laser show for a few seasons. It was a big treat to sit out in the meadow and hear it while the lasers danced on the side of the mountain in the dark. Great memories.

I will second that, a city beneath a city with anything you want.
