Well...…...construction equipment was being stolen here in Florida they took it/them to the port put them in containers and shipped them to South America and other places.

This showed up the same day as the OP but about three hours earlier.

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f42/...co-187195.html

For the record the ring that was doing the construction equipment were a little stealthier than this. I'm sure its just a fluke.

I am thinking of two possible Casinos. Both on Boulder Highway and east of the Strip.

One had issues with people taking unsecured bicycles at night. They do have Security patrolling on bicycles.

An ounce of protection, like securing the hitch, will have potential thieves move to an easier target. These trailer parks have near full capacity and many would notice hardened steel protection being removed, day or night.

I might have missed it, but we also secure our hitch anywhere we camp.

Thieves have a short time of exposure to take a trailer. The owner may appear in five minutes or five hours... so they must be quick. They also understand that the owner will immediately report the trailer as stolen.

The thieves need to ditch the trailer into a secure area, as they do not know if the local authorities are already on the lookout.

This all seems a bit unreal... but it will be interesting how this develops. I suspect the Airstream is not too far away. Even if put onto a flat bed hauler... would be taking on too much risk of being caught.

Not knowing the owners, personally... I have to infer what a reasonable person would do with their trailer's security. Sometimes what you believe and what happened may not even be close to what occurred.

As curiosity is a fault of mine, I will google the local news to see what may be going on.

Not saying these individuals were... depending on their insurance to make a full restitution of the trailer's value... and discovering they had the wrong, less expensive option of coverage... things get murky and fuzzy.

If it is the comprehensive for the tow vechile then it makes since that the trailer must be attached to be towing it. You need a policy on the trailer also if you want it covered for theft and liability while parked. Seems straightfoward enough to me.

A little good news to report, unfortunately the trailer has not been recovered but the Las Vegas Police Department have decided that this is a worthy case to investigate and are making it a priority. As of about an hour ago there is now a case number and a detective assigned to the case. Our friends Victor and Linda conveyor deepest thanks for your kind words ideas and well wishes. I've convinced them to become Forum members when they get a trailer again....

Not in our case. It may depend on each individual's policy IMO. See Post #18 for our situation.

Thanks AN13 for the LV PD good news.

I have a 2 5/16 ball without a threaded stud I insert into the coupler pocket, then an armored lock locks the latch. This way nothing can be inserted into the coupler to tow it away.
I wrap the safety chains tight so they cant be used to haul it either.

Wheel locks... I posess vintage wheel locks with a padlock provision, I lock those as well.

I also have disc brakes which stop with incredible authority. A covert secondary breakaway switch drives my brake actuator via a long stainless cable through a wheel. There is no way those 6 wheels will spin with the brakes on!
I have video surveillance on all 4 sides, and my crank up antenna, digitally recorded and streamed to my phone. My AS has its own internet that can send video, audio, and other crucial data.
Im the original gear queer. Thinking of creating a hot shell condition in the event of tamper, but I will forget to disable it, and zap myself on return.
There are other systems at play but dont want to publish all my secrets online...

Had I an uninsured Airstream and it was stolen at a RV Park, I would expect to have access to Security Video, if it exists.

Had I a stolen Airstream, I would expect the local police of the local authorities... immediately and contact the local NEWS TV and RADIO stations.

Had I a stolen Airstream, I personally would be providing any photo and information to THIS FORUM. Atomic#13 is doing a fabulous good deed getting involved on his time.

Had I a stolen Airstream, I would be speaking with all RV Owners next to my trailer and in the RV Park.

Somehow, this is beyond my comprehension. Although our information is coming in the third or fourth person, I would be doing more than... nothing to recover my trailer.

If this owner has NO photo, NO insurance, NO interest... NO Airstream... are there other reasons that it is not being pursued?

I have been known to leave my keys in my tow vehicle. Here I am checking the oil. This makes as much sense as this...

You are our conduit of information. How can someone who lives in the Las Vegas area help without current information?

Someone living in Pennsylvania is just following this as it develops.

I know the area. Probably the Casino. The information is dated. How can anyone help if current information is not available? An Airstream of any kind is such a small minority of traffic in the area, it just cannot blend in with the SOB white fiberglass and 40 foot motor homes...

There is never enough current information. Too late for us watching Hwy 93 out through Boulder City... as we can see traffic both directions.

Hi

Of course some of those you would *assume* are in Pennsylvania are actually much closer. Somehow I doubt it will roll through this campground in Texas ... stranger things *have* happened.
