Staying hitched for the night - put stabilizers down?

If you are pulling over for the night and you don't unhitch because you intend to take off first thing in the morning or for some other reason, do you put your stabilizers down?

Thanks,

Steve

I do - just because I’m slightly motion sick sometimes - just takes a couple minutes....no harm no foul either way! Happy camping!

I do and I make a habit to stick a reminder that they are down in the middle of the steering wheel in the event, especially early morning departure, I forget they are down! I also tend to drop the jack as well to take a bit of strain off the rear axle of the truck.

It depends. If we are sitting level, and it's not windy, I usually don't bother. I just level fore and aft with the tongue jack to add some stability. Our rig doesn't wobble much sitting on the tires.

If the wind is blowing hard, I put the stabilizers down after I level with the tongue jack. One time in the Texas hill country the trailer wiggled in spite of the stabilizers, etc being cranked as tight as I dared, Estimated windspeed was well over 50 MPH sideways. Was a rough couple days sitting in the same spot.

I leave the truck fully hitched in either case...and run the full departure checklist no matter what before getting underway...

I'll put the tongue jack down to level if needed and also to stabilize a bit. When I do, I put a (unused!) dog poop bag over the gear shift to remind me it's down.

Yes - I put my stabilizers and my jack foot down.

Stabilizers if I have the time tongue jack down.

If I’m only on the ball then no stabilizers.

If we are staying hitched and simply pulling through just for a night I typically don’t bother with stabilizers, one less thing to do in the morning.

If in a campsite I normally put down the tongue jack to level and the stabilizers to get rid of the side to side motion. If in a "walmart", I don't lower anything for a fast get away!!

Yes when staying in Walmart or a truck stop I let down the tongue jack and stabilizes. Stop the feeling on board a ship in the night.

No, I do not do a thing but cut off the engine if the site is level or if the lynx blocks are enough to level it.

we don't. I think it is largely a question of what you like. Without them there is a bit more bounce in the TT as one walks around. We don'd find it to be disturbing for a night.

I simplify everything for a RON (remain overnight). I shut off the truck, set the parking brake, and that’s it. If I’ve got a pretty open view to the SW, I’ll push the button and let the antenna find DirecTV. (It’s always nice to see a familiar news program.) A lot of what we’ll do trailer-wise depends on distance to destination. We like to travel with full water and empty black/gray tanks so we can boondocks if the mood strikes us.

We sliders are different. It is strongly recommended to put stabilizers down before deploying the slideout. I will level in both axes and put stabilizers down most stops when not unhooking. I hate sleeping head down or feeling like I'm going to roll out of bed. It is amazing how small an angle can make me uncomfortable.

Depends on whether I care about the bounce. If I do put the stabilizers down, I have a tag that I rubber band to my steering wheel to remind me to put them back up in the morning. I do always chock the wheels when stopping for the night.

Just Hop in the Back & Sleep

We never deploy the stabilizers or the jack. Never noticed any additional wear/tear. Both the dealer and the service shop told us as long as it is not for more than a couple nights, we will be fine. Never had an issue yet and we are at over 16,000 miles in the first year and only using it part time. In the shop now for a bunch of upgrades. Will post pictures when completed.

I level with the tongue jack and put the stabilizers down -- all after making sure we're level left to right.

If it is just a quick overnight I don't put down the stabilizers or tongue jack. Get some sleep and hit the road in the morning (but not without running the full departure checklist!).
