Our two favorite places to stay are outside YP itself, but relatively close. Like Till, we settle into one campground for several days or week(s) and day trip out from there. One is located between Grand Tetons and YP allowing easy day trips into the Jackson Hole area and also the southern parts of YP: Flag Ranch. It's large and busy in season, but can accomodate the numbers without that on-top-of-each-other feel of Fishing Bridge, etc, within the park. Flag Ranch has a large lovely lodge with restaurant, fuel, mini-provisions shop, and so on. Shady sites. Our most favorite area campground is up the Madison River, about halfway between West Yellowstone and Ennis: Madison River Campground. This has small, limited number of sites so call ahead, right above the Madison (easy fishing), has a "best" shop/laundry area/shower house if these are needed, and excellent friendly hosts. We like this one when we are going to explore the northern portions of YP and the famous fly fishing rivers that surround. Just our favorites: we look forward to returning. If you stay farther south in the Tetons area, we like Jenny Lake Campground, but like others, you need to be in line by about 9 am to get a site as others are leaving. Very popular.
