St Michaels Maryland?

we are attending a family reunion in St Michaels MD in June, and will probably do a ten day or more trip up the coast bit leaving from Atlanta area.

Anyone know of a good campground within 50 miles or so of St Michaels? The Taylor's Island Family Campground seems to be close but not much info is on the web about it.

Here's a link to an interactive guide for Md campgrounds which might be of help. It has an interactive guide.

I live 3 miles from St. Michaels. The only campground I know of is in the next county in a town called Greensboro. My grandparents used to camp there and said it was nice. I'll get the name for you. I have heard rumors that there is someplace in Tilghman Island (about 15 miles away) with a few full hookups but it is not a campground. I think it is at Harrison's Chesapeake House which is a hotel/restaraunt/marina/fishing charter/seafood biz . Not ritzy at all (Tilghmna is a waterman's village). Harrisons Chesapeake House,* Chesapeake Bay Sportfishing, Maryland Charter Boat Fishing, Tilghman Island MD, Maryland Crabs, Maryland Oysters, Maryland Rockfishing, Chesapeake Bay Striper Fishing. Give them a call and ask.
Taylor's island is about 2-3 hours away from here. Don't trust what Google Maps or Mapquest says about distances on the Eastern Shore of MD. We are made up of peninsulas where you have to go up and around them to get anywhere and the mapping sites seem to measure distance 'as the crow flies'...which is a straight line.
It's nice here in June. Bring your skeeter spray!

That campground is called 'Holiday Park" and is in Caroline County.
Here's the website: https://holidaypark.com/.
It is about 45 minutes away.

if you are using the chesapeake bay bridge tunnel going north, and want to spend the night after crossing i'd recommend kiptopeke state park:
http://national.citysearch.com/profi...ctions_summary

used to be where the ferry crossings were but it is now a good camping spot

If you have been to the Eastern Shore this is the palce to go. Lived down there for many many years on the Miles River. Town gets very crazy during the season but well worth a visit. Must also visit Easton, just off RT 50. Downtown is very nice and lots of history. A must is the Crab Claw and the Maritime Museum is nice if you are into the Bay and waterfowling.

I grew up in St. Michaels... and can't for the life of me ever remember seeing an Airstream there... too bad our paths hadn't crossed earlier! The marinas sometime will offer hookup to campers like they do for the boats. Depending on where the reunion is- you might just boondock for the night at the reunion and then stay somewhere else for the rest of your trip.

Our paths may have crossed. I've lived here since 1975. The only locally owned AS I know of is down on Tilghman on Fairbanks road and it is permanently parked it seems. There used to be 2 on Tilghman but one is gone. Our 77 Excella turns alot of heads around here.
Marinas have gotten a bit hoity-toity and I cannot imagne any would allow boondocking or offer hookups. My husband works at all of the marinas around here and they all are pretty strict in one form or another. You may be able to boondock at the very end or Tilgman Island road (which is Rt.33) at the huge parking area on the bay. It's a beautiful spot. There used to be a 5-6 lot camper area there with some type of hookups but it looks like it is gone to me.
Here's a satellite picture of the area. The parking lot it in the pink square.

You can always boondock at the WalMart in Easton. It's only 15 minutes away. If you have any questions about anything nearby just ask. I'd be happy to help.

There is a park called Martinek State Park in Denton Maryland. Very nice with electric only in the pine trees with access to fishing. Never been to Taylor's Island camping but Squrlgurl is right the ride to these areas can be surprisingly long.

Good Luck

OK....what is the name of the restaurant on Tilman, down hom cooking, family syle, very Eastern Shore big field in front? Best Country Fried Steak and Mashed Potatos. They always have RV camped in their field.

all great info thanks. We will not boondock as we want to leave the camper locked up safely for the afternoons over the weekend while we go to the reunion events. The park near Easton so far gets my vote.
We will travel up thru NC stopping in New Bern, Orient, and Wilmington, with a side trip to VA Beach where I have relatives.

Holiday Park near Easton seems our best bet for the two nights. It does not get the best reviews, but choices are few. I worry about leaving the Airstream in a State Park while we are at the reunion most of the day.

I guess you can never tell, those unseemly tent people frequent State Parks. Wait a minute I've had tents. LOL

Sounds like Holiday Park is closer anyway, never been there, let us know the lowdown.

Heading up to Eston, CT? Not like Easton, MD at all. I still don't know where Easton Center is. We might stop by Friday after work, we will have to see how it goes. OK, is it Harrington's with the Country Fried Steak?
