St. Louis Gateway to the West
Plan to stop at the St. Louis arch next week. Is there room for trailers to pull off there and tour? Could someone recommend a campground nearby?

Where to park in St. Louis
St. Louis is one of the very few larger cities to have an rv park right downtown. The park is the St. Louis RV Park, 800-878-3330, www.stlouisrvpark.com. The owners, Mr. and Mrs. Hudson, are warm and welcoming. The park is basic, but is very convenient the arch and because of its central location, all the other things to do in and around St. Louis are very easy to visit. We had no problem maneuvering the streets to and around the park as you most probably will arrive via highway anyway. The laundry and bathhouse facilities are impeccably clean. They now have wi-fi and they also have a pool.
Although it is not what one would call a "resort", it is efficient, safe and convenient. We always stay with them when visiting St.Louis!

Casino Queen
Right across the river from the Arch is the Casino Queen RV park. Great views of the Arch at night. Well maintained park with security. At one time your fee included buffet breakfast for two but I think that changed to buy one get one free but it was a great breakfast. Fee was reasonable, forget what is was. We stayed there twice a couple of years ago. On rvparkreview.com some commented on train noise, we heard none during a two night stay. We'd stay there again. We stayed there in a 37' MH and had plenty of room. Actually I guess it's time to go back with our AS.

Just paid the Arch a visit this past weekend and parked my rig south of the arch just past (under) the I-70 bridge. It says No Parking, but it's ok for buses and RV's. Enjoy...

Page and I camped at the Casino Queen last fall and were pleased enough. The museum at the base of the arch is great, as is the view from the top. The ride to the top is not for the claustrophobic, though.
There is a transit stop near the Queen, or there is parking between the arch and the river for your tv.
Be sure to visit the Indian Mounds at Cahokia and its museum - just East of SL.

Not many great camping places near downtown area...those mentioned above are closest to downtown but KOA and Jellystone Park at Six Flags exit near Eureka (25 minutes south of downtown on hwy 44), Robertsville State Park (about 45 minutes from downtown), Pin Oak Creek Campground about (45 minutes west on 44 from downtown on old Route 66), Babler State Park about 30 minutes from downtown.
Do you already have your "touring" plans set? Do you have kids or grandkids with you for the trip?
So many things I could share with you depending on what you all like and or want to do...
---Forest Park Zoo and Museums are free.
Art Museum, Missouri History Museum, Science Center & Planetarium
---Missouri Botanical Garden is free on Wednesday till noon.
---City Museum is the place to go if you have kids age 5 - 16.
---2 Casinos on riverfront, more about 1/2 hour from downtown
---New Baseball stadium is pretty nice.
---National Bowling Hall of Fame right next to New Busch Stadium
---Grant's Farm (run by Anheuser Busch Theme Parks) is free w/ reservations
---Anheuser Busch Brewery Tours...free w/ samples in the tasting room
---Museum of Transportation (out in the county about 30 minutes but worth the trip)
---Visit THE HILL neighborhood for good Italian food
---Six Flags about 1 hour outside downtown (major construction just before the exit to the park though)
---Visit the BEVO area for good Bosnian food
I'm sure I'm forgetting some things.
PM for further info.

Be aware that I-64 just west of downtown will be closed in both directions from Friday night 2/2 at 7 PM though Sunday 2/4 at midnight. They are knocking down an overpass so if you plan to come through St. Louis look to the I-255 or I-270 bypasses as your means of going west through town.
Also note that beginning soon, the main downtown bridge which carries I-64 and I-55 will be subject to lane restrictions through out the summer, while the bridge decking is resurfaced. This is a major choke point so again consider the alternative routes noted above if you are coming through St. Louis. I-64 just east of St. Louis is also under construction all the way through O'Fallon Ill. Allow some time to get through this area during heavy traffic periods.
If St. Louis is a destination point for you, then the Casino Queen park in East St. Louis is a good jump off point. As noted the Metrolink lightrail transit stops at the casino and will take you over to downtown St. Louis. Downtown stops include Laclede's Landing at the riverfront, the convention center, Busch Stadium, Savvis Center (arena), and Union Station.
You will also find a private campground in St. Charles Mo., along with the ones metioned earlier in other posts.
