KOA near six flags SW of town off I44.

Sundermeier west of town near St Charles off I70. Here you can walk / ride the Katy Trail to St Charles and restaurants.

Another off I370 but hit hard ny flooding this year and may not be open??

Possibly some in IL Im not familiar with.

We stayed at Dr. Edmund A. Babler State Park last year. It was a beautiful park with nice sites. The road in was a little steep and twisty but we had no problems with our Classic 30 Slideout towed by our Ram 2500. If you came from a different direction than we did it might not be the same route. Worth a stop!

We stayed a casino RV park on the Illinois side. It was across the river from the arch. Not much of an RV park, but close. We would take the local train into the city.

Ditto on casino rv park. Also I think there is an RV park on the NE interstate loop about 4 or 5 miles from I 55

Yeah once you get out of town you can find a few nice ones both on the illinois side of the river and west side. East of St. Louis, you can find 3 nice Corp of E campgrounds on Lake Carlyle. All sites have some limited full hookup sites and honor the America the Beautiful Recreational Passes. Going southwest of St. Louis you have the KOA by Six Flags, a Jellystone Park in the same area, and a little further out Pin Oak Creek on the old US 66 highway. Go further out (about 50 miles southwest) you have Meramec State Park, Babler State Park just west of the suburbs. Other parks to the south are Washington State Park, Hawn State Park, St. Joe State Park.

There is one asphalt campground near downtown St. Louis (St Louis RV Park) which is high security but is nothing more that a nice fenced full hookup parking lot, if you are here for downtown activities or need to be close to the Forest Park attractions. The Casino in East St. Louis has a campground next to the river for those who might also want easy downtown access. Again a glorified high security parking lot.

If you have one you have found on the map, drop a line and I'll give you my impressions.

We have family in the STL area, so we're there frequently. Dr. Edmund A. Babler Memorial SP in Wildwood is great BUT sites have only electricity (mostly 30A, but some 50A). Water is turned off 1 November, but there is one frost-free faucet between the two host sites. Restrooms and showers are closed then.

Lakewood 370 in St Peters is our other go-to campground. It is quite a bit more expensive than Babler, but offers FHU at all sites. Pull-thru sites are a bit more than back-ins, and the sites closest to the lake are the most expensive. The park is in the flood area, so it is closed now. Not sure when it will reopen. It normally is open year-round. Water faucets have heat tape on them. They do offer weekly and monthly rates.

Going out a bit farther is Graham Cave SP at mile marker 170 on I-70. This is a small, older park. 34 non-electric sites and 18 electric sites, 30A only. Sites range from 29' to 62' with most in the 40-45' range. None are exactly level. VERY quiet park. Even on Independence Day weekend it wasn't completely full.

South of STL on US 67 is St. Francois SP. 64 electric sites, most of which are pull-thru. All are 30A, and water is available at several places. Again, water is turned off 1 November. 45 non-electric sites. Most sites are level enough and long enough for Airstreams.

FWIW, we're hosting at St. Francois for September and October. We were at Graham Cave in July and August. Fair warning: we're booked pretty solid every weekend in the electric sites.

Thanks to all for the wonderful info on the campgrounds in the St. Louis area. We haven't decided as yet but are leaning toward Sundermeier RV Park. We like the idea of the bike path and restaurants. We have friends on the Illinois side in Edwardsville so its not that far away.
